I'm going to replace the back glass, what size window sealant should be used, 3/8 or 5/16 ? I don't remember which I used the last time, but I think I read that the 3/8 made the glass sit too high and caused problems with the moulding, but I'm not sure.

Apparently you are going to use butyl tape on the backlite. It is what they used "back in the day", but it is a big fat gooey mess! The butyl doesn't hold nearly as good as modern day urethane. Call your local glass shop and find an independent guy to come out and put it back in for you. If you must use the butyl, go with the thinner tape IF your frame where the glass sits is in decent shape. Good luck!
