Hello all,
I'm in the process of changing my trunk lock in my 69 Z and found out that the repo lock only fits with the keyhole horizontally. Anyone else run into this & how to fix it?
thanks,
Kelvin

I ran into that same thing on my 1967 Camaro a few years back. When I purchased a new REPRO 1967 lock set from D&R, the one for trunk fit sideways??
I was told that if the tail panel was changed on a 67, even with a NEW GM part, that the replacement panel always used the 1968 lock. It made no sense to me but the 1968 lock fit fine.
The tail panel had been replaced on that car way back in 1970 so I guess its possible.
As far as the 1969 I am doing now, I reused the factory lock.
It may just be that they sent you the wrong lock and you need to get it exchanged for the right one. Maybe it is a 1967 truck lock or something. It is possible that whoever put it in the package put in the wrong one. I mean they all look pretty much the same at a glance.
Whatever you do, I wouldn't cut the panel to fit the lock.

After doing some research, I think I got shipped the wrong lock assembly. Although correctly marked as a 1969 trunk lock, I believe this lock is for a 1967 trunk. Hopefully I can get my money back and recieve the right part.

Thanks Jack,
I saw your reply a tad too late. I looked at Rick's catalog (page 173) and they have 2 pics of the trunk lock holes and sure looks like I got sent the wrong ones. Appreciate you help!

I know it sucks to have to send it back but at least you will get one that fits.
Good Luck

You should be able to confirm which year lock you have by looking at the key.
First generation keys are different every year, there is a good CRG report on this with pictures.

Called the tech line & rep checked part on shelf and confirms right part is on its way. I got my fingers crossed.

Let us know how you make out, I'm curious as I said I tried two sets with no luck, the vendor promised me they were for a 69 camaro.

Update: trunk & glove box lock kit from Rick's came today. Luckily for me this time, the lock sits upright. =)

On a side note, is the 1969 retaining clip splatter painted too or was the clip and locks installed by the trim shop? If so would the clip be a semi flat black?

The lock and retainer were installed in the Trim Shop, long after the trunk was painted.
