: Z-11 original top/rear window?

I'm in the process of authenticating/documenting all the #'s matching stuff on my Z-11 and I was curious if it has the original top and rear window. I think it is since everything else is original.

The marking on the window are as follows:

DOT-0108
In a diamond it says "regalite"
below the diamond it says AS GM-1 C 8 9
below that it says "DO NOT RUB DRY"
below that it says "WASH WITH WATER SOAKED CLOTH"

Are these the correct markings for an original window? The car is an 04C if it matters. I'm thinking the C 8 9 is a date code of March 8,1969...sound correct?

So far everything else lines up perfect and appears to be original. (I knew it was, I'm just documenting it now.)

Thanks!

Sounds right Dave, but I think you might be missing a digit after the "AS". Should probably be AS-6. And the "Regalite" is in a triangular box, right?

Can you take a picture and post it?

Thanks for the speedy reply Ed. Yes, the "Regalite" is inside the triangular/sideways diamond box. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow and post it.

This may be a silly question but until I ask I'll never know. If the top was replaced do you usually reuse the same window or do the tops come with the window built in already? Just like the window, the top looks original and this is a 49,000 original mile car.

Thanks again!

Dave,

The window is "usually" part of the top, but I've seen fitters that will re-use your original window if that's what you want to do. If it's not all scratched up or foggy, it's no problem.

Also, replacement tops have the same markings on them, but without the original dates. A new top would come with todays date, but if you ordered the top in March of 1979, 1989, 1999, etc... you would get the same code!

Looks like an AS-6M-1. Is that good or bad for being original?

As usual...thanks for the help!

Dave that looks right. And since "C 8 9" equates to March 8th, 1969, around 5 or 6 weeks prior to your 04C build date, I'd say it's probably original.

Is it in good condition? Usually after all these years the tops tear, the windows get all scratched up or foggy, or the threads rot away and the whole thing unravels! An "Original" top is rare these days!

Thanks again Ed. Actually the top and rear window are in perfect shape but definitely appear to be original.

Talk with Al Knoch, the Corvette interior supplier. He supplies correctly dated Corvette convertible tops. Since he is associated with Crown, maybe he can get or direct to who can help get a date rear window and a new top.

As a matter of fact I am going to Al Knoch on Monday to work on getting the window stamping correct with them. If you don't mind I'd like to use your car as a reference for 1969.

I am tracking these windows by assembly plant (Norwood or Van Nuys) and body assembly week...example 03A, 04D, etc. from the cowl tag. Knowing this from your car will help me track any possible changes in dating, manufacturer, font styles, etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In fact if anyone else here has an original rear window for a 67-69 please post the following info here:

1. Assembly week from cowl tag
2. Assembly plant
3. Photos - these will be a great help (see example from Barefoot Dave)

Thank you!

Best Regards,
Mike Rossi
