A friend of mine has a 68, 69 and a 70 Camaro. He wants to sell the 68 and put the money into the 70. So please chime in with what he should ask for the 68. Here are the specifics:
It is a 68 RS, 327- 210hp, Powerglide, 2 BBL.
This car needs some sheet metal. The rear quarters were replaced years ago but they were 3/4 panels and were put on over the top of the old quarters. The door skins were repalced years ago and may need replacing. It starts and runs and drives. The interior looks OK but has a small hole in the headliner. You can see about 80 photos at

Just click on View Album in the upper right and you can see the photos quicker. So tell us what its worth. He won't be selling it until spring.

wish I knew the 68's John but even something needing work if it runs and isnt just waiting to fall apart in rust, its got to be worth $10,000 as a roller and up from there. Needs sheetmetal and trunk work I see too but most of them do. Its all fixable of course. not sure if that helps, wish it was 69 Id be more comfortable.

Things seem to be a little cheaper down here. I've looked at a few in the past several months ,that compare pretty close at 7500.00 to8500.00 range.
good luck with the sale!

That's a tough one to call, John. I love the RS package and the Blue on Blue combo...much better than White....oh, sorry Click...:o but it's going to need a lot of sheet metal soon. If the trunk floor is as bad as it seems under whatever is in there, it may well require shock towers and frame rails to make it right also. The rear floor pans appear pretty rusty too....may need a complete pan. The doors were shamelessly skinned and bondo-ed in the past and may require complete replacement. The interior, while decent and a favorite color, still needs restoration. If he wants to keep it at a local level, I think about 8-10k is about all he should expect. If he wants to deal with the national market, he may get more. If mine ends up going back to it's creator, I may be interested.

while that car certainly looks a whole lot prettier then mine did when I picked it up

it pretty much needs just as much body work to get up to snuff. I paid 4k for mine

I looked at every picture and I see a car that needs alot of work to be truly nice. Paint and bodywork look amature and previous rust repair is coming back through everywhere. This could easily snowball into an every panel replacement long term project, which is OK if thats what you want and you buy it right.
Also something tells me the RS may have been added, check the rear panel backup cutouts to be sure.
7K tops, you will have 20K in it by the time you are done.

Hey John, no comment on the value, but thought I'd say howdy.
I still have those pics of all the rubber we left on Click's driveway last summer!!!

Thanks for all the replies. Nice to here form Click & Jim. Yeah that was fun at Clicks last july. Pretty sure its an original RS as my friend bought it from the original owner. Anyway, I agree this car needs alot of work and it could need even more that meets the eye. I think he'll be pleased with the general value you guys are mentioning. Just got back from ice fishing at Lake of The Woods for 2 1/2 days. Cold but I caught 21 wallye and 8 nice perch on Friday and 20 walleye and 9 perch on Sat. Released a 21" Walleye and lost a northern that made 5 long runs and nearly emptied the line off the spool before the line broke. Every time i got him close to the hole he would make a long run. Thought I could tire him out with the drag but he won. Anyway, thanks and keep the opinions coming.

Just a quick update, Bruce bought the car in 1979. So he's had it for 28 years. I don't believe anyone was into doing RS clone conversions back in the 70's so pretty sure it's a real RS.

There were a few, but nowhere near the "conversions" you see now. "Clone" wasn't even a word then.. I was buying and reselling very decent driver first gens for 500-800 dollars then. Way better condition than the 10-12k cars now !!!

Since he's had it that long, he should restore and keep it...

Yeah he was torn between selling his 68 or his 70. His 69 is already very nice. We decided he couldn't get enough for the 70 to come close to restoring the 68. But he could probably get enough for the 68 to restore the 70. The 70 is in better shape. So for now that's the plan. He has had all three cars for many many years so he's pretty attached to all of them.
