Hoping any of you will give me advice on either re-chorming my rear bumper ( 1968 coupe), or replacing.

One of the local plating shops wants $400 to rechrome my original rear bumper ( I'm removing my front bumper, so it's not an issue). I can purchase a new triple plated bumper from Rick's First gen for $100.00.

I've been told that the quality of the replacements are sometimes suspect, i.e., thin metal etc... Rick's catalog says theirs are replated core bumpers.....

I'd appreciate any good advice guys!!!!

I had the same problem..
My front and rear bumpers were straight, but the orig chrome was rusted and peeling.
I had them sandblasted with the rest of my car.
Then found out the re-chroming would be $375 ea. different local shops.

I decided to paint my original bumpers the same as the car, (Z).
I also bought the 2 chrome replacements from Classic Industries for $130ea.
I don't see any difference in the weight or strenght over original.
I do like both sets of bumpers, but can't decide on painted over chrome, so I plan on using both, (maybe a July swap).

Bottom line, I like the OEM Chrome bumpers, (and happy with the price)..
I couldn't justify spending $700 on re-chroming 2 bumpers. (lots of other places that $ could go.)

Hey thanks a lot Tony!!!

I agree with your assessment about the $700.00 going to a better place!

I recently saw a Camaro Performers Magazine that had a '68 with painted bumpers and they do look great!!! Another good idea!!!

Have a good onE!

I got my bumpers from "Bumper Boys" at a national car event. They were high quality and made from original cores. About $150 each. Money well spent. I've also got bumpers from Ricks and had good luck with them as well. Just depends what you want. Ricks bumpers shine up quick and look great once installed.
