Sure.

Mine's that way now with JCW's 3-leaf mono replacement springs that I have added two extra leaf's to so that they better match my about 500 to 525 pound front coils...

I do need to install spacers to keep from bending my shock plates, but my car has been this way with '68 'Bird 5-leaf multi's for years and years fine!!

So I'm in no hurry.

I do STRONGLY recommend using at least one "U"-bolt per side b/c the little "T"-bolts can break!!

This is true yes use upper bkt and shock bkt.,you need a thicker isolater pad to take up the space of the bolt head aligning hole is in the shock bracket and you need u bolts to go around the axel tubes,T bolts will not work as bottom bkt, and top bkt. will not contact each other...Good Luck and Happy Motoring...if new pad is as thick as bolt head drill a hole in it ,my pad came with hole formed in it again Good luck

I've read where many people get the big U-bolts and have no problems with a small gap.
1950's Chevy's had this gap without a problem.

I recently went from mono to 5-leafs, (no reason, just a good deal)..
I would not recommend this..

I've not had a problem, but have been looking for a posi-rearend with multi-leaf the perch.
I've also been thinking about making some aluminum spacers with some 1.5" square stock I have laying around.

Get a couple of 5/16" x 5" long carriage bolts, grind the squares off under the heads, thread them longer and install them in place of the headed bolts that are in them now..

Just whack h-ll outta the heads to seat them flat better and pein the nuts and go!! No problems with the tops at all.

Mine are that way now!!

Mine too!!!! Thanks to Paul and his advice. I took the carriage bolts however and ground the tops down a bit (as well as the square part) to make them almost smooth. Came out great, and fit together perfectly. I did have to cut the edge off the rubber pads to make it all fit. Most people do.
