Did all '69 327's have partial vin #'s on them? I can't find it in any location noted here:

http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#EngineNumbers

There is an engine ID # located in this area: http://www.camaros.org/images/pages/decoding/1967-68_V8engine_stamp_location.jpg

It's V1T18FL but the partial vin is not next to it.

-- UPDATE --

I do see faint numbers on the block near the oil filter. In fact, the numbers "21" are fairly clear. The numbers in front of that are difficult to read. I beleive they are
"101" wich would match the last 5 digits of my vin "10121". I just can't see any more numbers in front of that.

Any suggestions on what to use to clean the block anymore than what I have in that area?

I'm off to buy a high-powered magnifying glass to see if that will work.

My original 327 had the partial vin in the rough cast by the oil filter as well....It was very hard to read the numbers.....but I could see them enough to know that they were a match....

I have heard that using white chalk on the area will help the numbers stand out....I just never have tried it....

Thanks, Dan, I'll try that. However, I picked up a 4x magnifying glass today and verified that the 327 is indeed a match for the car (even though the numbers are still hard to read), as is the transmission along with the rest of the drive-train.

I'm happy as a kid in a candy store right now and just posted pics of the engine on my webshots account.

Take some clay and press it where you see the VIN stamped, this will show up in the clay. It worked for me. Chalk sometimes works.
