View Full Version : Z28 help????
godspeed Jan 28th, 07, 01:22 PM i purchased a 1969 z28 and im curious about if it is real.... it has a x11 code on the cowl tag, but the title doesnt say z28, also...is it supposed to have the 396 or a 350, what block codes should be present....any other clues to help me figure out if i bought a real or fake?
madmax87 Jan 28th, 07, 01:26 PM Sorry, not a Z28. Since the car has an X code, you would need an X33 or X77 to be a Z. Whats the 3rd number on the VIN on the dash? 3 or 4

godspeed Jan 28th, 07, 01:28 PM its a 4
godspeed Jan 28th, 07, 01:29 PM is there any other indication on the title?
madmax87 Jan 28th, 07, 01:34 PM Az title tells you nothing about the car. Being it is a 4 on the VIN, not the cowl, it tells you it was at least a V8. X11 is the style package. It may have been a SS or not. You need to look for such things as, does it have disk brakes in front, does it have the welded hanger plate on the driver side rear rail. Where in AZ are you located? Did you buy this car as a real Z28?
godspeed Jan 28th, 07, 01:42 PM i dnt live in az....but am moving there shortly.
what motor came in the Z28 or ss?
so, is it possible that it is a ss not a Z28.
i havent insured it yet...but when i do, r they goin to go by what the title says then?
it does have front disc, and is the factory red.
the car has a consol/auto.
godspeed Jan 28th, 07, 01:43 PM (welded hanger plate on the driver side rear rail)..what is this
madmax87 Jan 28th, 07, 01:52 PM Only engine and trans in a Z was a 302, 4-speed.
A SS could have a 350, 396. 4-speed or auto. I'm not sure of all the details on an SS so I won't go too much further on that.
Yours having disk brakes is a plus. What engine is currently in the car? Is it supposed to be the original engine?
As far as insurance, is this going to be your daily driver? There are alot of posts on this site as far as insurance. Do a search and you will get some good info. If this is just you toy car, it is usually cheaper to go with a collector car ins but then there are limitations to your driving and how the car is stored.
godspeed Jan 28th, 07, 01:56 PM occasional driver, its my 2nd camaro.
this one has a 396 as well, but i thought i had purchased a z28, guess i should try and find out if it is a ss.
thanx for the help and god bless
steve
madmax87 Jan 28th, 07, 02:00 PM (welded hanger plate on the driver side rear rail)..what is this
Behind the drivers side rear tire mounted to the side of the frame will be a welded 3" plate used to mount the exhaust hanger. This will only be there on factory dual exhaust cars.
click Jan 28th, 07, 03:50 PM steve you have 2 different threads on your car running at the same time with the same basic question. To find out about a camaro the TAG section is where that happens in this site. You really need to read www.camaros.org in their Decode section to get a little idea on the background behind the cars first. Most of your questions will be answered there. Try to keep all of them in the same thread so folks that try to help can find them again too. You probably wont get every question answered immediately as folks come and go alot here, just take your time and do your reading to begin with. The learning curve will pick up speed after you get an idea of what to look for. :) welcome to Team Camaro too.
