i purchased a 1969 camaro x11.

it has a 396,with an auto.
front disc brakes.

the title doesnt say ss...is it supposed to?
any other clues?

The title is just a DMV typed up piece of paper. It can't be used to validate what the car is...

as to what dennis said, there is no possible way that your car came with a 396 unless someone had switched your tags. the title wont say anything in regards to it being a 396 but you will be able to tell if its a 6 or 8 cylinder motor

No, If the DMV puts Camaro on the title you are ahead of most, my '69 Camaro, '72 Nova and 2000 Impala all only say "Chev". If your title says SS 396 it's because someone transfered the title at the DMV ans was asked "what make and model?" and the reply was SS396 instead of Chevrolet Camaro and the clerk typed that in.

If your cowl tag says X11 on it your car did not start life as a big block.

Just for grins ... do your heater hoses come out the fire wall directly? Or do they come out of the heater core box cover attached to the fire wall?

a big block(396/427) came directly out of the middle of the heater box. the small blocks came out of the firewall at the edge of the heater box close to the right valve cover.
