This might be a good spot to ask this ? I'm parting out a 67 rustbucket and want to know what I should do with the tags. I dont have a title , I saved the car from the crusher in a scrap yard. I wouldnt mind selling both tags to someone here that has a car they can redo, you can always get a title made for them, but I would take the whole firewall off and not" ouch" the tag. I dont want to sell it on ebay , That just gives thieves a way out. What do you think?

when people want tags mostly are when they bought a new body from like ricks first gen or classic car or any other camaro companies its about 10000 to 12000 dollars for it but no vin. in order to get a vin you need car up to 2007 standards with airbags, emmisions, and all other safety equipment for 2007. so they will buy a rust busket for a few grand with title. i seen a ruster on e bay go for 3500 bux. also it gives thieves a way out to change title it to be legal. so lol its up in the air.

I am really not trying to be rude, but...... when you say "tags" I am assuming you are talking the trim tag AND the VIN plate. If so, it is a federal crime to remove the VIN for placement on a different vehicle. As far as the trim tag, although it is not illegal (yet) in any state to remove it and place it on another vehicle, it is at best perpetrating a fraud somewhere down the line. Now, since you asked, the best thing to do with the tags on a car that will never be repaired is to cut them up and put them in the trash. That is the only way to insure they are not used fraudulently.

BTW, how is selling them to someone on this site any different than selling them to one of the thieves on ebay? Just curious.

You have the right to disagree of course. JMHO.

If you build a car like this you dont have to do every thing you said .
How many 32 fords do you see running around with airbags. All you have to do is make it into a hotrod. Now for the cowl tags post them on here for us to add to the gone list then cut them up.

Mud Rat is correct. You can get a "shop built" replica car titled and tagged with a state issued VIN, just like the fiberglass 32 Fords. It is a federal crime to put another car's VIN on one of the new bodies. Yes I know it is being done, but lots of folks are smoking weed too. That doesn't make it legal.

So what is the problem people have with doing this (state issued vin) resale value ?
certinally a replica 69 camaro with a state issued vin will not be worth as much as a original I would assume.

Whats the difference If I replaced all the body supports and left just the firewall and door jamb intact? I can leave it sit on the frame take every piece apart , connect new rockers to the door jamb and just keep going, now I have the original car with just the original firewall and tag in place plus the original door jamb with the VIN untouched. Never touch the vin so thats not illegal?

That's is exactly what this guy here does.

I dont see anything wrong with that because you are rebuilding the car.

NO DIFFERENCE!!! So why does it matter as long as you are not cheating someone?

transfering the vin is illeagal, transfering new parts to the shell of a car with untouched vin tags is leagal. That how I understand the law...

Both tags appear to be real tags

well no , so the vin is only good for thieves,or someone who wants to build a 2006 1967 camaro. That settles that the vin gets trashed. anybody want to by a cowl tag?
