I just purchased this alternator and now I'm starting to question this stamp.I bought it locally from a guy who had a 69 Z28 that he sold and he said he had this alt. rebuilt years ago put it in a box and just came across it.He showed me pics of the car so I assumed it was real. Now I don't.The ones stamped on this one don't look like the ones on some of my other alts.Unless they used different stamping #s Any thoughts?
Thanks,Scott

The stamping almost looks too perfect, like it were CNC engraved or something. I dunno...when it comes down to having stuff like the alternator and starter being completely original, I don't really care. They are wear items that are normally discarded even today and having something like you have there, to me is more about the looks than authenticity. I'd fork over $100 for a known restamp and tell the buyer of my car straight up. Spending upwards of a grand for an original engine part like this just doesn't make sense. That money could buy you a set of tires, and a summers worth of gasoline and oil changes.

If its original, awesome.
If its a restamp and you won't sleep at night without the real thing, PM me and I'll buy the darned thing (dates wrong, but that's another whole rant...)

Agreed! I just bought a restamped alternator for my Z as well as a restamped distributor. To pay $1500 or so for the "real" versions, only to find out later that they too are restamped just makes no sense to me either. :noway:

That looks like a cherry alternator to me.

Well if it's good I got a pretty good deal on it $300 perfect date for my car also.It is clean I just noticed the ones(11) don't have the lines on the bottom of them like some of my other alternators do.Like you guys said I shouldn't worry too much.Just had to know. Thanks

Please don't take my opinion as gospel...I'm new at this, and thus....am pretty dumb.

That is NOT a "real" stamping. It's a replica.

Dumb or not, I agree with you - that's an engraving, not a stamping.

$300 for a restamp 837 is not a good deal, IMO.

I have pics of a 9A13 837 alt, and it doesn't bear much resemblence to yours.

Try this one:

Take a picture of that real stamping with you and try to get some bucks off as the first was misrepresented.

Here is mine. Should be real. Your font is wrong.

Why the dash in front of the 12?
