View Full Version : Fan and Fan Clutch Identification Help
tim68rsss Jan 29th, 07, 05:30 PM I've been told that I have a very rare fan and fan clutch combination. An old school Chevy guy gave it to me for my 68RSSS 396/325 but its not right for my application. Please take a look at the pics. Can anyone tell me what it fits or what correct application if is for? I was told it was for a high rpm application like an L78 or a 67 COPO. I don't know but knew someone here might be able to point me in the right direction. There is an "H", "66", and "FRONT" stamped on the front and "W" stamped on the back of the fan. The clutch tag says "PATENTED 1961 CANADA" The 1961 throws me off with the 67 COPO?

tim68rsss Jan 29th, 07, 07:15 PM Didn't think so, but wasn't sure. Oh well, throw in the "use it later box". Any idea what it came off? Thanks!
Kurt S Jan 29th, 07, 07:41 PM http://www.camaros.org/coolingsystems.shtml has some pics and dimensions to compare.
And there was no hi performance COPO in 67.
tim68rsss Jan 29th, 07, 08:03 PM If I have learned one thing over the past five years restoring my 68 RSSS, it is a considerable amount of folks know little about what fit what and when, especially at the local Camaro supply shop. I have always been able to count on this site for correct and valuable info. No doubt this fan and clutch fits something other than a first gen Camaro. I don't have the heart to tell the older gentleman that gave me the part he was wrong. Thanks for all of the comments!
Jonesy Jan 29th, 07, 09:54 PM That clutch and possibly the fan look to be real early 70's corvette.
tim68rsss Jan 30th, 07, 06:45 AM That makes since because the guy had several Corvettes. He had a 1963 conv. all original 31,000 miles that was super nice. He also had a 70 Cuda conv. Wouldn't even talk about selling either. Maybe I should post the fan and clutch on some of the Corvette sites to see if it is from one of those applications. Thanks!
AMANOCC Jan 26th, 08, 11:29 PM I saw your post about the 70's corvette fan and clutch, I need one for my 69 vette, is it for sale? Call me at 858-472-1013, Thanks, Alec

dyno jonn Jan 27th, 08, 07:31 AM Tim,
Look at the back side of the fan clutch, next to where the pilot for the water pump goes in. Most fan clutches I have seen are dated in that area.
JohnZ Jan 27th, 08, 07:27 PM That's a Schwitzer clutch, and they're all dated on the O.D. of the flange where the clutch bolts to the water pump hub, followed by "SC"; typical photo below.
dyno jonn Jan 27th, 08, 09:08 PM Learned something new.
That's a good thing. Thanks JohnZ
tim68rsss Jul 27th, 08, 09:40 AM Can someone help me ID this fan clutch combo?
Fan: "H", "66", and "FRONT" stamped on the front and "W" stamped on the back of the fan.
Clutch: 2-1-68-SC (dashes are dots on the clutch) clutch tag says "PATENTED 1961 CANADA"
As posted ,there seems to be a good possiblity that its off of a Corvette. SB/BB? 1968?
Thanks!
tim68rsss Jul 27th, 08, 01:22 PM Do the Corvette folks have a site like ours? If so, I'll post this over there on their site. If this fan/clutch combo is off of a 68 Corvette, I'm sure someone would like to have it.
