How long before you can flog a fresh motor on the track? Also when can you put syn. oil in on a fresh motor?

From the trailer to the start line, right after the burnout.

I don't believe your going to gain much by using synthetic oil, unless you're looking for another couple hp to get into the bottom of the next higher class.

However, I may be incorrect. Interesting to read others' comments.

as said above , warm it up really well , making sure the oil is warm , run something like a racing 10w40 should be just fine and then beat on it .

I've been told by Crane Cam not to use synthetic oil until the 5000 mile mark, if it has flat tappet lifters.

yeah, synthetic oil doesnt have the nessecary additives in it to allow for proper break in...or maybe its carbon molecules(being that its synthetic)...in any case, i`d probably wait until 2nd oil change...1st at 500 miles, and 2nd at 3000 miles before using syn just to make sure everythings broken in...

Its really not additives in a syn that cause folks not to use it as first oil in a new engine, its due to the fact that the syn is so good at lubricating the engine, that cylinders and rings wont seat as well as with a dino oil. After the break in, (wearing in a little), then the syn will protect it from further wear much better than dino oil.

OK so after cam break in leave oil in and go racing? Hard to get 500 or so miles on a drag only car, anything left out?

OK so after cam break in leave oil in and go racing? No, change oil & filter after cam break-in. Hard to get 500 or so miles on a drag only car, anything left out?Yes, it is hard. IMO, I would change break-in oil & filter and go with this oil for a race session. The change oil & filter again and go for two subsequent sessions. Then, use your regular oil schedule.

No, as Jim said, synthetic is too slick, rings won't seat correctly as with using dino oil. I would use dino oil on the first race session, then go to synthetic after.

If you notice a little oil burning, then maybe another race session with dino oil to further seat the rings, may be on the schedule, IMO.

its good to know about that syn...i knew not to break in a motor on it, but not the reason why..
