Hey Everyone,
I'm starting my search for a 427 - either a crate (unlikely I am finding) or a block/shortblock. I am working the Yenko clone and would love to find a block from that era but - I know, that will be tough.
So does anyone have any source suggestions to get the ball rolling?
Thanks for any info,
Bill

454 block with a 427 or 396 crank = 427 ci
454 blocks are easy to come by. There is a guy in California who sells forged 396/427 cranks (new) for about 375. He claims they are NOS but I'm not sure. I bought one and it does not look exactly like the original Tufftrided cranks used to look but it seems OK and he claims it is nitrided. I have not installed it in an engine yet. The same guy advertises L72 shortblocks and longblocks but not cheap.

PAW performance still sells 427 short and long blocks (I think).

Tracy Corvettes has original correct date code 427 blocks. The website incorrectly lists the casting as 3968512 instead of 3963512 for the correct 427/454 blocks. Lot's of date codes. Can't remember what they are asking for a bare block but I'm sure it's $$$$.

The 3963512 block was used on most 1969 L72 engine cars but I don't think it was available for 67-68 cars. I believe the 67-68 cars would more likely have had the earlier 3869942 or 3904351 block.
Most of these old blocks were cast with either 2 or 4 bolt mains - they were not all 4 bolt so beware.
Use my information with care. I know only enough to be dangerous! The Yenko guys would be able to nail this down better.

You might want to try Mchenry Classic car arts in Hebron, Illinois. I know he has one on a stand in his showroom. Do a search and you will find his phone number. Good guy and very knowledgeable. Get this, he has an original 30,000 mile 69 Chevelle Yenko with the 427. One of 99 he said. BIIIIIG bucks.
