: Chemical stripping a subframe here in NJ ?

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a local business here in NJ that does chemical stripping at a reasonable price. I have a complete subframe as well as a ton of other parts that I need stripped. I'd like to have them electro-coated as well, but I'll be lucky enough to find a company that will strip the parts. I've searched through previous posts on this site, but I found nothing in close proximity to this state. I considered driving the parts to Michigan, but am holding out in hopes of finding someone closer. I also looked through the internet yellow pages for this state and came up empty handed again. Can anyone help?

Thanks, Paul

Paul...what company are you referring to in Michigan? If it's 'Carponents', I'm sad to report that they are no longer in business. The new place to have this done is through International Paint Stripping in Romulus, Michigan. That is...if you can't find one in Jersey. Good luck.

There is a Redi-Strip in Allentown Pa. They do chemical dip. Also a powdercoater across the street last time i was there. graemlins/thumbsup.gif From Clifton Allentown is probably a 1.5 hour drive.

Paul, A friend of mine just had his car dipped at Redi-strip in Allentown and he said there was about 5 cars waiting to go in and 8 that were out of the dip tank. Sounds like they are doing a good business. I plan to take my shell and subframe there this fall/winter.

I don't know where there is a place where you can chemically strip your parts but I do know of a powdercoat place where they will sandblast your piece and then powdercoat it almost any color you want. The name is Action Powder Coat and they are located in Lindenhurst, Long Island in New York. Probably not too far from you. I had my subframe done there for approximately $300 and they did an awesome job. They sandblasted it and coated it glossy black. Check my link below to see how it came out. If you're interested, they have a website it is: www.actionpowdercoat.com. (http://www.actionpowdercoat.com.)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the replies! Hi Infamous, as far as the company in Michigan, I believe it was called ElectraCoat or E-coating. I know the company changed it's name as well as owners. I have no idea what they're called now. I hope I don't have to make the trip to Romulus. Hey Shoddy and Kevin! It looks like Allentown is a winner, but I'll give them a call tomorrow before I get my hopes up too high. I spent a good portion of today going over the car with a fine tooth comb. I'm going to take the plunge and have the entire body dipped as well as the subframe. I'm just noticing too many little areas that are just too tight to get into without replacing panels. I really want this car done right the first time so I'm not going to play any games. I'm going to see if they can primer dip the car as well. That'll really help me out a bunch. I love the way E-coating looks and functions. Hey DaMan! The car looks awesome. That subframe looks smooth as a babys butt. If Redi Strip doesn't E-Coat, I'll probably go for the powdercoating.
I have a couple of other questions reagarding the body and parts that that I intend on stripping, but I'll post them tomorrow in this same (BODY) section. I'd love to get your honest opinions. So until tomorrow, have a good night and I will talk to you again. Thanks again Guys, Paul

Paul...I was one of the last to have my car e-coated by Carponents. I'll check into those names that you gave me. If you can get it done, you won't regret it. I was very happy with how my car turned out.

Here's a shot of my car after I picked it up.... (http://www.infamouscamaro.com/e-coat%20camaro2%20004.jpg)

Hi Infamous,

I vivsited your website to look at your car pics. That's what I want as a finished product!! I called Redi-Strip in Allentown and they don't E-coat. I did get all the price quotes and I found them to be extremely courteous (Thanks John). I was told that there was a place in Ohio that strips and E-coats, but I can't seem to find out what the businesses name is or where in Ohio it might be. I also tried to find the number for the business In Romulus Michigan with no luck either. Someone please help. Paul

'E-Coat King' was the name of Carponents website.
It was www.ecoatking.com. (http://www.ecoatking.com.) It has been shut down.

Is anyone near Waterbury CT? There is this place. Maybe someone can see if they can handle large items like body shells?

Hey Infamous,

Thanks for the tel # and address. I had previously dealt with Mark when he worked for E-coat, but had forgotten the new name of his company as well as his number. I did call today and left him my number to call back. It's definitely a good distance from my house - 589 miles to his location, but oh well.
Hey Kevin! I called Giering, but they do not dip car bodies. I appreciate the lead though. By the way, I'd love to join you at the Jackson Outlets show on the 30th. Let me know, Paul

The outlet shows are the last friday of the month from May to September. The posted hours are 6-9pm, but if you show up at 6pm on a nice summer day, you will be parking far away! The shows get between 800-1200 cars on the nice nights. If July 30th is clear, there will be a BIG crowd. I usually get there at least by 5:00pm to get a good spot. Me and Bruce and the wives bring dinner and tailgate watching all the cars pull in. $1 donation, music, shopping for the spouse, quiet family event, people bring dogs, kids.

Let us know if you are coming and what you are driving and we will be on a look out.
