Default 1968 Camaro Convertible RS restore

I've been restoring my car for 4 years this month. This was my first car. I bought it in 1982. Wasn't old enough to drive but me and my Dad had us a good project to work on. It had the original 327 2barrel engine and automatic trans. the RS headlights were there but the motors, actuators and all were long gone. During my high school years this car saw several Grateful Dead shows and went to places I would be scared to go in a 4 wheel drive today. In march of 1991 I slid into the back of a brand new BMW and she was put in the barn. I pulled it out 4 years ago, and was gonna restore and be riding for $10000 or so. Man did I miss that price. I completely rewired the car, put new brakes all the way around including 4 piston disc brakes on the front. I stroked the engine out to 383 with a set of 69 Z28 186 heads. It's about too much of a motor but it'll be fun. Went with a 69 Muncie M20 transmission and a 342 12 bolt rear end. I put Hotchkis convertible frame connectors under her. Interior is Houndstooth and deluxe door panels. The list goes on and on. Hope to be riding by summer. Who knows though??

And here's where I'm at today.

Yep that's my family car. It's a 29 roadster all original. 4 cylinder 3 speed, manual brakes the hole works.
I'm gonna work on trying to figure out how to align my glass today. I've got both sides slid back in the doors and quarter sides. This is gonna be a task. I did not take my top frame apart so hopefully it'll be close to where it's supposed to be but the window's are way off. The guy is getting my fenders and remaining few parts in the paint room today so hopefully I'm fixing to be all orange. I've got black paint and the stripe kit to put Z stripes but I haven't made up my mind if I'm gonna stripe it or use the paint on my 71 Harley. Decisions, Decisions.

Did you use Gm quarters or reproductions? If they were repro how did they fit?

I used the GM quarters that were on it. these quarters were put (1 berfore I got it and the other in 1984). Both were full quarters cut down for convertible and the tops were filled with bondo to make the top contours look right. We used an original car and made templates from the front top of the quarter all the way back to the trunk lid and then fabbed and tigged the tops. Looks just like factory.

Wish I could help you with the glass alignment but I am just beginning reassembly of my 67 vert and obviously haven't experienced that part yet. Please post what you find out....it would be much appreciated. Jeff

It's been a long time coming and tommarrow's the day. My fenders, header panel, vent grill and lower valance panel will finally be orange tommarrow. That'll be everything but my rear spoiler painted. I have bought a Z28 stripe kit and black paint but I havent made up my mind if I'm gonna go with the stripes or just the orange. I've seen em both ways and both look very good. I'll get some more pics posted very shortly.

Craig, those parts look great! I am very envious of you so far along on the project. Seems like it will be forever before mine sees new paint. I am not much of a Ford buff, but that old ford could hold my sheet metal any day! Back to the bowtie. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see it completed! Jeff
