Not yet. Generally, I wouldn't ask a particular company who they would recommend because I'm sure they would recommend themselves. I mean, I already know I need shorty plugs, which should shave about 1/4" off or so and I guess I would like to hear who has used which shorty plugs and whether they like a particular brand over another. I've read bad stuff about Accel shorty plugs fouling quickly and would like to compare that to peoples' experience with Autolite Racing plugs or NGK shorties or whatever...

I have used Accel's short plugs with good results.................. Accel-U-Groove Spark Plugs There are several to choose from depending upon application. David F.

Cool. Then I will just try the Accels and see how they do. I will start with .045. What am I looking for in order to determine if that gap is correct or not? I mean, currently, I believe my plugs are gapped around .035 or .038 - which might be too small of a gap. What's the downside to have a gap that's too small? How would I know if I needed a different heat range? Sorry... just trying to make sure I understand what's happening...
EDIT: By the way, I don't have an ignition box like an msd or anything - just a regular Procomp HEI with a 50kV coil. Last edited by jkaufman; Nov 5th, 09 at 04:24 PM. |

Could a spark plug gap that is too tight cause a glowing header? Or do I need to run a colder plug?

High octane, low rpms, high alt= hotter plugs. The gap is a whole world of science. Some propeller heads here can explain it better than I, but if its too narrow, you will have a weak, quick thin spark. If it is too wide you may have a delayed intermittant spark. When running a hot aftermafket coil you can get away with a wider gap. Its actually taking advantage of the coil you paid for. As far as your gap being so narrow that it causes a hot cylinder, the only way I see is if it was so narrow that it caused advanced timing on that cylinder and others gapped so large that the other cylinder timing became retarded. Im not sure if this is plausible, hopefully some members in white coats are about to start typing.
