You gonna do the JL8 thing? Keep notes, it would make a great tutorial.

Exactly, i am researching all the necessary parts to make a JL8 kit and slowly i will be buying the parts. Once all parts purchased, i will asssemble on the car.

this site as been great for tips and advice.

It be nice if we could all put our knowledge on JL8 parts and have a JL8 do-it yourself file for all team camaro members to view.

Erick, what is your plan for the rear axle plate? I guess the center tube hole is what the O.D. of the axle is. I would think all you need after that is the spacing of the 4 backplate mounting/caliper bracket holes.

Do you have Wayne Guinn's book, Camaro Untold Secrets? Lots of good JL8 information and some pictures/schematics with measurements and even shows some factory errors. The JL8 rotors were 11-3/4 vs 11" for the standard J52 4 piston brakes and they were 1-1/4 thick vs 1" so they required different mounting brackets and splash shields for the front.

I thought the mounting brackets for the front splash shields were stock hubs. Jeff, you are saying that the front backing plates/splash shields are NOT Corvette pieces?

Hollander interchange #1045 GM Part number 3887867. Actually the interchange for Nova says 64-74. Also Apollo 73-74, Camaro 67-69, Chevelle 64-72, Chevy van series 10 64-70, Corvair 65-69, Firebird 68 only (not sure why), Olds Cutlass & F85 68-72, Omega 73 & 74, Tempest 64-66 & 68 (also not sure why), Ventura 71-74. This info is for the hub only, not the drum or the spindle. Should be pretty easy to find some good ones..

The book says the front JL8 splash shields were made from some changes to the J52 standard shield, not Corvette pieces. It looks like most the JL8 brackets were modified pieces to fit the larger rotors. Most people don't realize how different the JL8 setup really is from the 67-68 4 piston disc brakes.

Hmm, Jeff, is it that a J52 shield was taken and machined in certain areas for clearance?

As to the fact that the rear axle was beveled, was it beveled on the inboard or outboard side? Wonder why as the flange fits into the disc itself, no?
