I had my 69 blasted and I regret it. Sure it got rid of all rust and bondo, but I will never get rid of all of the MEDIA!!!Then when the fellas primed it, all of he sand that will never come out of the car gets stuck in the primer. I was told, "but all you gotta do is sand it out". It was more work for me than it was worth imo.
BTW, I had the car totally apart and on a rotisserie. After blasting, I must have spun the car over and over 100+ times to shake loose the sand, and vacuumed over and over and still theres sand!! If I ever do it again I will use stripper to remove paint and grinding/wire wheels to remove rust. ChrisP

Do you have all the equipment to restore a car and do you want to spend the next few years doing it. The car I have I replaced alot of body panels and after 4 years I am starting to put it back together. It is alot of work and time. I have 14 days off each month to work on it though. And all the money put into it. Still waiting on money. Oh yea its a buddies car so it aint my money.
I had it media blasted and was happy I did. I got to see all the bad panels,,less work on me. Yea it took a while to get all the media out of the car . It was on a rotessiere and I just keep turning it, blowing air in all the areas, vacuum.

If it's completely torn down, go ahead and blast it. Sure, blowing out (you'll spend forever trying to vac it out) all the media is kind of a PITA, but it's really not that big of a deal.

Have it blasted with plastic media. You will then know exactly what you have, where the rust is, and if the guys knows what he's doing, he can remove a good bit of the body filler.
As far as residue, my experience is that plastic media is larger particles than sand or soda. It doesn't create excess heat, thus no warpage or damage to the metal. And after blowing it out good several times and it being flipped over multiple times, all the media is gone. I must clarify though that I had to replace alot of sheet metal so that helped get rid of the media. My best advice is to determine your abilities, money, and the time you want to spend to get the car back up and running. Finally, just know this is a "pay me now or pay me later" situation if you plan to keep your Camaro long term.

If you do the chemical stipping yourself just be prepared to use a primer on it immediately afterwards. I live where the humidity is the highest in the free world, after I would do a fender and then get done with the next panel the fender I just did would already start to oxidize.
My first resto I did (79 Z) I stripped it myself. It wasn't hard, did it in a day. My second one (68 camaro) we cut off all of the body and sand blasted the inner body and floors and stuff....cost was 400 bucks, took me almost a day to get most of the sand out of it. There is still small bits of sand falling out occasionally. Either way expect to spend a day on the car. My next car (69 SS camaro) I will chemical strip. But I am replacing most of the body panels anyway so it won't be a big deal. I don't think I will blast anymore of my stuff. It's going to be a days worth of work either way imo, I'd rather save the 400-600 bucks the next time around.

I soda blasted my 68, the nice part is that all the galvonized parts around the kick pannels stayed galvonized, sand would have taken it all off. When it was done it looked perfect only with dents. Washes away and I have no issues with media fallng out every where.
