I've got a 400 cu in motor in my '69 with a 4 speed Muncie M20. I've recently bought an 11" clutch assembly/168 tooth flywheel. I've also bought a bell housing from a big block 'Vette to clear the flywheel. ( I was told that I needed the the big block bellhousing to clear the fly/clutch assembly & that the bells are all interchangeable with each other). The block is tapped to take a staggered starter motor. However, when I try to fit the starter motor it won't fit right in & bolt up as the starter nose hits the inside of the bellhousing. I've tried 2 starters on this with different noses & neither of them fit. Can anyone tell me what's going wrong here please as it's driving me nuts now.
Thanks in advance...Nige |

What is the casting number on the bellhousing? It should be on the starter side and be 3899621.

You need a starter with a staggered bolt pattern cast iron nose to clear the inside of the 621 bellhousing.
