I have Disc/Drum power brakes (69 camaro) the master cylinder piston has the deep recess 1"5/8 for long push rod from booster (original factory booster).
I have ordered a new master cylinder if this has the shallow recess in the piston can I change to the short booster push rod with no ill effects? Is the shallow recess and short push rod correct for 69 power disc/drum brakes. Regards Murray |

As long as it does not apply pressure to the MC, or too short when it's bolted up. You should save your original MC or have it rebuilt. It's valuable to the car. http://pozziracing.com/brakes.htm#Co...Drums_to_Discs

I purchased a new MC and booster which came with the short pushrod. I pulled my old longer one from the original MC and used it. No problems. And yes I kept my original setup as suggested by Scott.

I just installed a disc master and power booster from MBM brakes front disc kit. The booster had the short rod installed but a longer one in the hardware kit. I suppose that's for if you don't use a booster.
The master had an additional machined piece of rod stock in the hole that was approx 1" long with a concave rear end that the short rod seated against. Don't know if this is some weird setup but have not seen it mentioned yet so I thought I'd mention it.

Tom,
I think that piece of stock rod you are referring to is to be used to make a short rod the same length as the long pushrod. You put that piece into the deep hole in the master cylinder and then bolt it up to the booster with the short rod installed. I don't know why they provide that since they already provide the long and short pushrods. Did you use the long or short pushrod on your application?

Whichever rod you use make sure the rod is not pushing on the MC piston. There should be about a 1/8" clearance between them.
If it pushes the rod the back brakes will have no fluid after you try bleeding them. What happens is the port for the back brakes will not get any fluid with the piston pushed in.
