In my opinion the big block is a big fat pig of an engine. Our old camaros already have almost 60% of the weight over the front wheels.
Keep it a small block and take the money you'd spend getting the big block to work and add more parts to make more power. |

...big block is a big fat pig of an engine...
Thats what aluminum heads are for. A BB+Muncie in a first gen Camaro is a religious experience. |

I put a 396 in a 69 a while back. Not hard. Yes the heater core needs to be replaced "comes out of box instead of firewall" motormounts, fanshroud, cross member, and had to get a smaller crank pulley. My exhaust manifold was real close to the power steering box, so I went with headers. Valve covers were stock with a small notch or dent in the rear. I also had to replace my firewall due to an flywheel coming threw it. Not good almost lost a foot.

When I put a BBC in my 67 I sold all of my SBC stuff.
Like stated, 1st time I got on it it was a religious experience: Damn near enough torque to counter rotate the Earth...

I think Pete refers "pig" to handling (he lists a panty Porsch among his rides).
Not to worry Pete, with alum heads, Muncie, headers, 'glass hood and a few of Dave Pozzi's handling recommendations; I'm sure something can be done to make a BB first gen agreeable to someone like you. |

Well this is what he typed. I can't say what he meant.

First, you need to jettison the Camero and get a Camaro. Next, get a good Camaro parts catalog with a highlighter and a note book. Highlight and write out all the BB parts and you'll quickly see there are a lot of minor differences: Clutch linkage, cross member, frame/motor stands, radiator, radiator shroud, heater core, heater core cover, carburetor linkage, fuel lines (possibly)..... that's what I can think of without scratching my head and leafing through a parts catalog. If you do it, do it right. They are too old, cool and people make special trips to look at them so don't do a circa 1980's teenage hack job. Besides, a hack job causes a lot of headaches and tweeking that'll make you wish you had just swapped the right stuff out.
