Default Richmond Lockright or Powertrax

I have a ten bolt rear end in my 68 and would like to put in one of these units or something simulare. Can anyone tell me the diffrence between these two units. And their experience with them. thanks.

Richmond bought Power Trax, so they are the same company. I have the Lock Right in my truck and it has worked very well for over 15 years. If you have an automatic you won't notice it much, but with a manual transmission you will get some popping and jerking sometimes.

Thank you big gear head. I called summit racing and thay said that the power trax was a little quieter than the lock right. It does cost more though. I will be on the sreet more than the track so I do want it to be comfortable on the road.

You are talking about the No-Slip. The Lock Right and No-Slp are both Power Trax. The No-Slip is suppose to be quieter, but I've heard some bad things about the No-Slip. I guess a lot of people have had no trouble at all with it. I just like the Lock Right better because it's simpler and locks up well. I've installed several of the Lock Right kits, but I have no personal experience with the No-Slip.

I wouldn't take rear end advice from the sales people at Summit. All they are doing is reading stuff off of a computer. If you want rear end advice and great service go to someone who deals with rear ends every day. Randy's Ring & Pinion and Tom's Differentials are 2 very good places to go for rear end parts and service. Summit and Jeg's just sell parts.

I like the Eaton Posi for most street cars that might see some strip time. Eaton bought out Trac Tech, so now the Truetrac and Detroit Locker are theirs too. The Truetrac is good for auto cross and road racing and the Detroit Locker is great for serious street/strip cars.

Possibly slower times. A locker tends to cause the rear tires to turn at the same speed when under power in a turn. This means that one tire is going to have to slip, which will cause the car to over steer, or if both rear tires grip it will cause the car to under steer. The Truetrac works smoother than the other types of differentials and will not cause over steer or under steer. The Truetrac doesn't work as well for drag racing and the others.

I don't recommend 33 spline axles unless you are going to convert to the Moser housing ends and 9 inch Ford press on axle bearings. The 12 bolt c clips are just about the same size as the 33 spline axles, so there isn't a lot of material to hold the axles in with c clips.

Contact Tom's Differentials for prices on Eaton stuff. He's in pretty tight with Eaton and has some good prices.

I ran the Lock Right for many years with no issues, was still in the car when I sold it. It was an easy install, they do make a little noise, but nothing you won't get use to. I would run one again.

Freddie, I'm running Strange axles with a spool right now. The spiders are original. The Strange axles were a direct replacement.
I'm sure that you can understand how scary it is to inflict a non reversible modification to a rear end. But good riddance to C-clips. That's what happens when the car becomes too quick.
