Hello,
I have a 1969 Camaro that has the wood grain trim interior. I'm interested / looking at buying a wooden steering wheel for the car. I've been looking at so many reproduction rosewood steering wheels and most of the adds say "the best" feel and color match blabla. I'm posting wondering if any of you guys have bought or seen some of these you like or "don't" like. darrellv67@gmail.com Please any help on the matter will be helpful to me. Thanks Darrell |

Hey Darrell,
Most if not all the repros are the same. The grain pattern , colour and gloss do not match the originals. Most people who know these cars can spot an original from a repro very quickly. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showth...osewood+wheels |

I got mine from Classic Industries. I love it. They are proud of them so they are pricey.

I have one that I replaced w/ a Grant.
It is in very nice shape. I have no idea if it is real or not. I might be interested in trading for? or selling. I don't know how to post pics, but I can through e-mail. |

I've had them all, and I can tell you for a fact that they all are junk. Not even close to the original. You can spot one from 20 feet.
Too bad the one that brags about the correct grain & color is so bad. The color is good, but the grain is way too coarse. Also the bends are off. If the one from Classic was just a little lighter in color, it would be pretty close. The bends are spot-on. It's just too dark. It's a shame those companies went through the time to make junk that's not even close. What a waste.

Just suck it up and shop on Ebay for an original Rosewood wheel. Even one that needs repair will make you happier in the long run.

I know many of you out there are very picky about being correct on all aspects when rebuilding a Camaro to factory specs and looks, o include the steering wheel and I truly really respect that you keep this alive.. But I have to tell my quick story for Christmas. I got my steering wheel from my kids that I have wanted for sooooo long. I got the walnut steering wheel from Classic Industries with the SS horn cap. It looks great. I wanted it for a reason. For one, my car is not numbers matching or anything like that. Its more of a restomod. But I also built the rectangular piece in the console four speed in walnut and got rid of the stock black metal and "chrome" trim piece. I tell ya, it looks like this is the way it should have come out of the factory and I have never seen another Camaro with this mod. I am one happy Dad that my kids did this for me and the looks are stunning to say the least.

Good times for you. How about pictures of your console mod and the wheel once you get her installed.

I agree with the restomod thing...these repros look great in these kind of cars....if you watch Overhaulin, Chip Foose uses these wood wheels from Classic all the time on the GM cars he does.
I did ask the guys at Gary's Steering Wheel restorations in Carlisle if they would re-do a rosewood wheel from Classic, and they said that they could. So if you want the closest thing to the real thing, this is the way to go. By the way, thers's a cracked rosewood wheel on eBay for $1600.00!!!!!
