After sitting for 20 years our 69 Camaro is finally in the shop for body work, paint and a whole lot of TLC!
My dad got the car in the mid 80's as a theft recovery (stolen from the original owner) and eventually gave it to me when I turned 16. I was young and stupid and wrecked it a month after my 17th birthday. Lucky for me he held on to it and my wonderful husband shipped it from Southern CA to NC 5 years ago. Built in Van Nuys as a RS/350 in Frost Green with the Moss Green deluxe interior, TH350, factory AC, power windows and tilt steering. As part of the theft the RS parts were all removed along with the tilt steering, we are putting the tilt steering back in but the re-conversion to an RS will have to wait until the next go around. Going back to the original exterior color and most likely a dark green deluxe interior. These forums have already been very helpful- so many things to do, decisions to make and parts to buy! Thanks everyone!
Ok, pictures are attached from when we first dropped it off and as it is being disassembled, including my favorite from today, the scary engine bay. We are not doing a full restoration by any stretch, just cleaning it up so we can drive and enjoy it. |

Thank you! I know the (non functional) cowl induction hood and Z stripes are nowhere near correct for the car. We are trying to balance originality (going back to Frost Green) costs (hood stays, we have it and it is in great condition) and enjoying the car. I love the Frost Green but it does need something to break up the color, hopefully the D90 "hockey stripes" will be enough since they were at least an option. I really really don't want it to be a clone car again. Why do the Z stripes in black have to look so good...

Welcome to the site Jennifer..... I can't believe you broke the cardinal rule for women and by your description of wrecking the car at 17 and stating that it has been sitting for 20 years I am guessing that you are appx 36-38 now. If that is the case you were driving the car right around 1992 as a 17 y/o girl. I got to ask the burning question....... did you have big hair and if so, how did you fit it in the car?? I dated a girl at that time that had to put the seat all the way back just so her hair would fit...![]() All kidding aside I am really glad to see that your dad kept the car and that your husband had it shipped cross-country so you can get it back on the road!!! Keep the pictures coming...

Ha Ha... I can see how you had that problem Rich but nope, no big hair for me. Driving the car in the CA sunshine with the windows down was so much more fun. I guess I always have been a bit of a rule breaker.
