If you do buy the car, you need to sit down with the original owner and get his story on videotape. If he has any children or grandchildren, a copy of this would be priceless to them. My parents are in their 80's, and we are starting to have our kids "interview" them for this exact reason. I think a special interest thing in the local paper would be neat, but they may be looking for an angle like a long lost car being reunited with its original owner or sommething like that. Doesn't hurt to try. You should try to stay in touch with them after you buy it - he is probably holding out for someone who will not simply flip the car to an out of state investor.
Oops - just went back and read that they did not have children. Maybe nieces or nephews? Sounds like you are trying to talk yourself into buying it. Go for it! As far as certification, the only name I can think of would be Jerry McNeish.

What seems suspect to me is how "savy" this guy is and knowing how valuable this is. Please don't take this the wrong way, just something I noticed reading your posts corcam. I am probably wrong, just suspicious. Funny that I joke about wiper blades when guys start debating what is a numbers car.
Have you looked at the VIN stamp on the block and tranny and the assembly date of the engine?

I would love to have the car certified but traveling that far is very likely out of the question and the car does now have a signed statement and video from the original owner stating the originality of the car. Their has been a couple of local camaro guys who seem to be pretty knowledgable look at the car and they are amazed at the original condition of the car. Car was always kept at the same address, never showed, and condition of the car kind of reflects the original condition of his house which has the sixties type furniture and carpet all in nearly mint condition and he also has lawn equipment from the sixties that he has preserved in excellent condition, he basically just takes very good care of things. I am curious if anyone has any questions other than the obvious as far as things I can look for regarding any tags, stamps, markings etc that will help verify the originality. The headlights, wiper blades, brakes, starter, alternator, tag behind the master cylinder, glass washer bottle mounted to side of radiator still full, carpet tags under seats that appear to never have been diry underneath have all been accounted for. This car just is really a cool time capsule and he even claims it has never even been aligned that he can remember. All documentation including window sticker are in nearly mint condition and original selling dealer sticker on top of trunk is still excellent. thanks for the help

You would do a great service to the Camaro community by posting a ton of detail pics of it. If you look at the 70 Camaro site in my link you will see what I mean. This site wont allow high enough resolution pics for what is probably needed. People could then just go to the site to see resto details. Congrats on getting it.

Congrats on the buy and I don't really care what you paid for it.
The important emotion is your happiness in owning a time capsule.

So corcam why are you still talking about it? You have had plenty of encouragement here. Either sh4t or get off the pot.
