Ok I consider myself pretty good at fixing things but for the life of me I cant figure how to remove them . Any help??

There is a little tab underneath where they fit onto the spindle. They make a special tool to release it. I used a cheap old small screw driver that I bent the tip and ground it down but I understand most car stores will sell you the tool for a few bucks.

However all that does is move the lock out of the way, if yours are the like mine were they are stuck on tight. So you'll need to be persuasive. DO NOT and I REPEAT DO NOT put a 2X4 on the windshield as a leverage point for a leverage bar of any kind. I saw that suggestion on-line somewhere and it resulted in DUHHHHH a crack in my windshield. Save yourself that expense.

Here is what you're after. You need to release the little tab by pulling it toward the wiper.
Just for info; this is my original wiper arm that I replaced back in 1970 or so. It stays right under my computer monitor as a reminder what a bitch this job is. I can pull the motor quicker.
And you guessed it, these things are not spark plugs on leaded gas. They last a very long time. Notice that it isn't dirty. I've not washed it.

I saw that tab and did move it correctly. I just sprayed a little lubricant in there hopefully over night it will seep in there and make the job easier. I need them removed so i can prep the cowl for paint. thanks for the picture

Just go to the parts store and buy a wiper arm removal tool for 5 bucks. Easy.

Don't want to rain on the parade but some times the wiper arms just won't come off. I had soaked mine with PB Blaster best I could, got the wiper tool and nada. They were frozen in place. Taped on them with a hammer and punch but couldn't budge them.

Had to cover the windshield, cowl, and fender then use my Dremel to slice a groove in the arm so I could spread it and remove. The inside of the arm looked like it had corroded and fused to the splined stub.

Bought new arms and tested them off/on a couple times and added a very thin coat of anti-sieze just for good measure.

They make pullers for that too; same concept as steering wheel or many other pullers. In the auto body industry, tools are made for everything.

Not to hijack a thread, but it's kind of related, my wiper arms are missing the SS springs (or tabs) to keep the wipers in place on the knurled shaft. The arms are perfect in every other way.

Besides the obvious of buying new arms, where can I buy the SS springs/tabs?

got em off . I used the propane torch to expand the zinc casting and they came right off. there was paint build up on splines so I am sure that is why they were a bear to get off but check that off of the list.

It's not so much that the arms get stuck, they actually do from time to time but more often than not I've found that because the arm is spring loaded on the mount that as you go to lift it off the splined post it gets canted and because of the splines becomes almost impossible to pull off even with the right tool. I've had this happen many times, just couldn't get the arm to lift off and after stopping and taking a better look I made sure the arm and spring don't cause tension on the mount and it lifts right off with the tool...

There's a reason people buy the right tools for the job. Lost track of how many I've removed without it, but it's easier with it. Dorman or Lisle products.

In case you want to check locally by part number and not deal with that know it all at the parts store that needs to know what engine and whether it has AC.... yeah, you know that kid.
Ask for the
Lisle part number 65750, Wiper Arm Removal Tool. Ricks price linked above is about right, but kind of a small item to eat shipping costs on in my opinion because you are sure to double the cost.
