Here's the latest update. VIN was recorded wrong in 1976 according to both the state and county. The county issued a new title for the vehicle matching their original numbers which match the VIN for the car.
I'm going to take the risk and go ahead and pick it up this month. I have a pretty good feeling that if it's worse of than I'm expecting that I'll be able to sell it for more than what I paid locally. Purchase price was $2500. I appreciate all of your help and knowledge.
