trying to locate lights for front bumper turn signal. Lights need to be 7 inches long and 3 inches wide. I am tired at looking at lights on line with no measurements. And there supposed to fit all models. well wrong. What do I need to get. tried chats and everybody wants oe numbers and stuff. This can not be that difficult. Front grill took awhile to figure out but got it. I thing it has a 86 berlinetta nose. Has 3 cuts across top of bumper line. HELP

Bought this car and been putting back together. The front end has been killing me for correct things. Got grill finally off ebay and it fit. These lights are all that's left. I don't know how to distinguish berlinetta stuff , car has no markings. 54,000 miles and was sitting in basement of warehouse for 18 years. Bought it from the crushers for 500 bucks. No rot on car just needs paint now. I am old and use to 67-69 stuff. Car sits very low and I am very tall LOL Looking around I did se earlier berlinetta's but the slits on bumpers are a lot wider. I got a grill used that had fog lights. Did they put some kind of air ram pieces behind these? Has 2.8 mpfi auto trans with 3.42 rear and rear sway bar

I'd be glad to give you all the help I can. Thirdgens are my passion. It appears the lights I linked above will work. Like i said the companies can confirm if you call them.

Some info on the berlinetta: In 84, the berlinetta received a futuristic instrument panel that featured a digital readout for speed, an electronic bar tachometer with vertical readout, and movable control pods flanking the instrument displays. The berlinetta radio location in swivel pod mounted to the console forward of the shifter. There were two styles, both unique to the berlinetta. All a huge giveaway to whether you have a berli or not.
Lets double check and see what the car left the factory as.
5th character of you VIN: P=sport coupe or Z28 coupe, S=Berlinetta
8th character is engine but i'm sure if it has a 2.8 (VIN=1) in it that is factory.
10th character is year: G=86
11th character is plant it was built in: N=norwood, L=Van Nuys

Interesting fact about the thirdgens is that the V6 are balanced front/rear. Put some good suspension under it, some 16x8 wheels with 245/50r16 tires or these http://www.ctw-motorsports.com/products/ with some 275/40r17's and you will have a killer autoX car.

Back to topic, If you have a berlinetta, you will MUST add a wonder bar to the front, I recommend this one. http://www.top-downsolutions.com/ch...and-suspension/steering-brace-(aka-wonderbar)-for-1982-92-camaro-or-firebird-(a It mounts under the front sway bar bushings and strengthens the frame rails where the steering gearbox has been known to crack the frame. It would be a good idea to check behind the steering gearbox to make sure now damage has already been done. The wonder bar was a factory option in the IROCs.

Here is a link that discusses the triangular braces the tie the K-member and frame rails together. Second link also has great info. the braces i'm talking about are pictured in post 22. Make sure you have them too. Please read these two links.

No, the 3 holes are nothing special. Maybe the help bring in more air for the radiator or a cooler intake charge but nothing to get excited about. The berlinetta was a fancy, luxury model. Never intended as a performance model. The berlinetta was usually advertised with a woman driver. check it out.

1G1FP <sport coupe or Z28 but probably not, a Z28 would have a V8
87S <173 ci V6 (LB8) Sorry i made a mistake, 1 was the 85 vin for v6
9G <1986
N <Norwood

Wonderbar is pretty cheap insurance huh? When you install it (very easy) check your frame rail behind the steering gearbox.

here are some pics of a beautiful 86 sports coupe

Found this info too since it appears to be a sports coupe instead of a berlinetta.

All 1986 Sport coupe models came with upgraded sport suspension, styled wheels with trim rings, raised black letter P215/65R15 tires, retuned exhaust with dual tail pipes, black sport mirrors, revised exterior trim, power steering and brakes, and AM radio. The lower body was painted an accent color. Because of the inclusion of sport suspension, RPO F41 (sport suspension) ceased to be a separately available option.

Car has a huge front sway bar. Rear sway bar. Car had 3 steel rims and you can tell they had some kind of small outer ring(pizza ring) Lower body had a black strip around car. Mirrors are black. Tires are 15 inch P215/65SR15 Rim Code is TB6 11 then 26XLJ Power steering and Power brakes. Car had pieces of black trim that must have been on outer body somewhere. narrow strips, door edge also all in black. exhaust is original but only comes out on driver side rear. Car had no radio in it when I got it but has a ERS interior dash emblem for sound, 4 speakes in car

The red 86 is very very nice. Looks like my car very close, red also. Has same front nose. Like the black around the head lights. I have a set of old appliance wheels that I have been waiting to put on something. Checked front caliper and clears. So waiting for lugs nut I ordered to make sure all will work. Thanks again!!

Well got front lights from Hawk's. Installed and they work. Got wonderbar and installed in 15 minutes. 3rd bolt hole has better holding power. Other bars only had 2. Frame behind box is fine, no stress cracks. Having windshield replaced Monday at my shop. Went to bone yard today and pick up a few missing fender brackets. Found 85 berlinetta and took out the front bumper lights. 1 was missing lens and other had lens but was pretty rough. So what I figured out is sport coups came with small lens but orange, berlinetta was clear with black cross. So I took off lens and cut out plex glass for both. Fitted in opening and will paint inside with chrome paint and glue on mounting back. Got all parts for 10 bucks. So will have clear lens if needed, rather than 120.00 to buy. might even put purple dot in center.

Rear trak bar was bent. I replaced and installed a Hotchkis adj. bar with greasable ends. Seems like rear is stable. Should I center rear somehow. Just don't know how important or what to measure off. Looks good. Passenger outer tie rod arm was bent, replaced. got slight toe in. Put level on front wheels. moved top plate. Top is slightly out from bottom?
Stock rim was bent so put rallie 8 inch on back and 7 inch on front for now. 275/60 and 235/60 Looking forward to checking out handling in near future. You guys say it should be good!

For future reference, Hotchkis for a thirdgen is overpriced and in the case of springs, not better than stock. Check UMI performance or BMR.

To center the rear end i would measure wheel to frame rail or inner wheel well.

Toe in is good. here's some great alignment specs for thirdgens. When you have an alignment done be very specific about these specs. Example:3/32" toe in is a must, if you let them leave it at 0 or toe out it will wander and follow the cracks in the road. If you let them just turn the numbers on the screen green your wasting your money.

I have almost the same wheels and tires on my 69. I have 225/60r15's in the front. I wouldn't dare autoX a thirdgen with that set up though. It will understeer (front tires slide) badly. Should be fine for street driving. Thirdgens like a square wheel and tire set up best (same size all around)

When weather clears up next is front end alignment. I have a new set of GM front struts still if they are needing replaced. Original ones are not leaking so probably good. Thinking if shop says there bad or something. Kind of interesting my 65 nova has the same parts. It has a first version fat man front that used Camaro suspension. Thanks

Drove car down road for testing and was nice. Steering wheel is off but went straight when took hands off the wheel. Front signal lights work well and flash opposite of the side markers. Did not know this. Replaced door lock that was missing, and found many problems. Fixed door felt that rivets were pulled. Plastic door panel pins were pulled from back, was able to salvage all. lubed door latch mech. Greased window slides. Window bottom stop was broke off. Was able to drill rivet out and reattach stop. Rubber stop was in bottom of door bouncing around. Noticed window now stops at door edge rather than going into door. Crank was missing but found it in box of misc parts with plastic washer. Now have window that works!!

Took off the tires. Old ones and just not good. I put my appliance wheels with new cooper tires. Got about 800 miles on car so far. runs good and handles great. Can go around my turns about 20 mph faster than my old pick up. Bro said something missing under front of car. To much undercarriage was exposed. Well after looking for long time, could not figure it out. He looked under super stock pics and found picture of car with under panel, car had front wheels off ground while racing. Majority of cars I see are iroc and z28. sport coupe is not around as much. So went back to bone yard by me and spent 3 hours digging out front of car in mud and frozen ground. I FOUND IT. 85 berlinetta has same front panel. I figure this part is probably very hard to locate. A fender bracket I got under mud also that I was missing. Had to stop in creek in yard to clean off in running stream from mud. yard guy laughed at me. This panel was much more size than I thought, but pictures are not common. Center even came to a point under radiator support. Brought it home and cleaned it sanded it and painted it and bolted it on after time to fit. Makes front of car now look much better and side view looks finished now with red colored panel

People try to stay with me in turns and they end up in other lane. They stay back after first scare. Wonder bar on. Did 330 mile road trip from country road to Interstate and was so nice. got 23.5 miles to the gallon. Wheels are slightly taller than stock but not much. Lights worked out well and just was given set of 85 fog lights and switch. Just need to put lens on them. allready had the small grill for them. These cars have great front lighting when driving at night. Fog lights will be good for my aging eyes. Friend just gave me the front under bumper panel for the sport coupe. booger to find that is not messed up. One i got earlier was smashed on one side but worked. Will be sending to paint shop shortly after replacing panel. Just turned 66,000 miles, so 7000 miles on beast so far. fun fun car to drive. Had to fix water problem coming form passenger side floor. It was that wiring harness seal when the water would run down inner panel to top of seal. It would have to rain a certain way. drove me nuts. Took fender off and used garden hose with water to figure out. Its overkill now after i am done. Built silicon dams. I hate body panel work and allignment

http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/ah259/a65gasser/DSCN2281_zpsgjtysakp.jpg My 500 dollar car is painted. Dropped car off 5 weeks ago and told guy alittle darker and black strip around bottom. Well this is what I got. Dropped 76 truck off to get done and picked this up at same time. Guy left outside for me to pick up and drop box for keys from truck. Have not even payed him yet. Started to drive home and then realization came back on how nice the car drives. 80 miles later I got home. Drove to work today. This car is so fun. My kid told me that I look like a rich kid now LOL. The only thing I am going to finish is putting in the fog lights. I have to make lens for them. When done I should have enough lights to work well.

Been awhile. Well have 11,000 miles on car now. Put fog lamps in and wired up. Boy when driving with high beams and fogs lights on it really shows roadway well. Just got done putting timing chain in car. found power steering pump ready to come apart from internal bearing shot. Went to local bone yard and YES found Pontiac with my exact pump, got for 25 and on car now and working well. The gasket between cover took hours to clean for gasket was like rock hard. I did not want to mess up housing. Took so long I decided not to change original water pump. to much work. Had spot in road to get to 60 MPH. from stop and after fix was able to get 70 MPH now. For little engine car does real well.

Well changed out original front park lights , orange, and made 2 out of plexaglass with purple dots. Got light housings off junk car. These special ones are not very common. Now with cars high beams on and fog lights on and alittle brighter front running lights, the road is assume. Have 22,000 miles now on car. Drove to Kentucky and averaged 31.5 miles per gallon. WOW. I size taller tire also. Put sirus radio in and when I drive I am in the 80's till I get out and reality hits :) when you guys told me that this car handles, I underestimated what u ment. not now. Not having to use brakes, lights, freaks people out following me to close
