Question Crazy Dipstick

Have a small block. No. V0508TDT.

Having to pull the whole tube out to measure oil level currently - not fun or smart. Currently the tube is bent wayyyyy out of shape (karate chopped at one time??), and the stick was about a foot too long. Gave it a cut to keep it from whacking internals.

I'd like to get this thing set up correctly, but am having trouble finding what this thing should look like. Kinda a stupid question I know. Currently the tube is about 8" long and mates to hole on driver's side block. Currently leaks at high oil pressure.

Am seeing tubes/sticks in Ricks/YR1 for 80 small block, but the tubes are about the full length of the stick?? HELP!!

Go to the local parts auto supply and they will hook you up with the proper oil tube and stick for your vehicle.

Kinda sounds like you have the later style dipstick (on pass side) which goes into the oil pan.

Nah, mine is short and on the driver's side. I'll cruise over to Autozone and see what they have to say... Thanks!

Go to a GM dealer and get the one for your car, driver side passenger car. It will be much better and fit right, tight. I bought mine for under 20$ for tube and dipstick. The stuff the parts houses sell is crap, imo, it will probably be chrome and fit like crap.

EXACTLY. I know cause I work in the parts store. Save yourself the trouble and get a GM part. You won't have to deal with it again if you go GM.

Bummer. Discontinued part I'm told @ GM Dealership. Anyone seen a short stick like this, driver's side or have any other ideas?

Let me look in the garage. I have a drives side, in-the-block tube and stick somewhere from an '80 350.
If you don't hear from me by Sunday night.... it's 'cause I'm getting ready to go out of town this weekend.

Hey Beerboy....I'm kind of new to all of this stuff but I was having a problem with my tube on a 383 stroker and just ordered one from Eckler's. You might want to check their site out. Mine is chrome yes but it's on the driver side and is a shorty.
