Tell us about what you know about the car, I6 or V8? trans, options etc, anything you know. Also it's restoration plans, stock, modified etc... I'd be inclined to not worry about the trim tag.

You have to have more info you can share, 12 bolt? V8? BB of SB, 307, 350? Original to the car, or? What badges, what hood? What interior? What do you think or know the car started life as? I feel like I'm pulling teeth to learn about your car.

you also don't seem to concerned that the guy restoring your car may have taken the trim tag off your car. I'd at least ask him about it, not to be too harsh or anything.

If it's gone it's gone. Unless you have an old damaged tag or something with pics and proof, forget it. Most folks here are not very supportive of replacing trim tags without a rock solid bullet proof reason. And not many here are going to suggest giving business to a company that fakes (makes) repo tags. Do you have any paperwork or warranty card from when car was new?

I think he/she was just posting examples of 06A tags, if they had all their info they might not have asked the same question(s)...

The lost trim tag just took down the value of your car immensly.
Might talk to the body shop about the lawsuit for the lost trim tag see where that gets you, since the value has changed. |

So the tag was on the car when you took it to the shop, and now it has mysteriously gone missing?

Not necessarily, custom cars with smoothed firewalls rarely retain the cowl tag. In '69 only one plant used X codes and not right from the start of production. X codes are the only real value on a cowl tag so if the tag contained no X codes where is it's value? Sure the tag also contains interior and paint color but if you have a restored hugger orange Camaro with deluxe interior and no cowl tag, what's the difference in value from another hugger orange, deluxe interior Camaro with a cowl tag that says black standard interior and yellow paint?
I'm not saying the tag will not effect value but in the overall market it only effects value on a very small segment of cars! Going after the shop that removed and lost the tag in court is a lost cause for all but a few and will be expensive up front because your typical judge may not be a car collector and see the value in the piece of stamped tin... In this case we don't have any clue what the original posters car is as they are reluctant to provide a lot of details. His best option may not be getting in the bodyshop owners face with threats of a lawsuit...
