I have an almost stock 396. 400hp. I am running a TCI turbo 350 (3000)stall and I'm getting ready to change ring and pinion to a 4.11. Has anyone else ran this size gear with a turbo 350.(ratio 2.52,1.52, 1.00) I just want to make sure I can finish the quarter mile without taching out.(under 6000) (I have 26" tires)
The converter slippage should not be as high as10% unless the converter is going bad. 6 to
7% would be more like it. The 4.11 will be fine
for that set up. Remember tire size plays a factor too.
Yep you might want to run a taller tire. A buddy of mine had a 68 with a 10:1 SB 350. TH350 and 4:11's eventually the tranny was shot(smoking) from highway mileage because of too short of tires. It hauled *** though. After reapiring the tranny and putting bigger/taller tires it would cruise the highway no problem.
well i had 4.10s with a turbo 350 i was running a mid low 14 and i finished at 5000 rpms with a 26 inch tire but u have a little bit more ponys so i would guess 5500
I'd say you have the right combination there if the rpm ranges mentioned work for yours at top speed. I used to work in a range a little lower in number, and always wanted to try a 4.11.
Just for info 3.73's,th350,26" tire = 3300rpm's @ 65mph.(approx.) 4.10's will be a little higher.
So if you plan on any hiway driving, you might want a taller tire to bring down the rpm's some ?
That's why I went 3.73's... compromise.
