This might seem like a ridiculous question, but I do not currently own a compressor or paint gun. Is there an Epoxy paint product (reliable & durable) sold in a spay can that would do a decent job covering the underbody & firewall? Someone mentioned to me that there was a company that offered a 2 part epoxy paint can; said you have to hit a button on the bottom of the can to mix the two products and then spray it on. I am thinking about buying my buddies used 60 gal Intersol Rand compressor and a paint gun, but wanted to know if spray cans are even an option. I am not building a show car; more of a cruiser and I don't expect the bottom to be inspected, but I do want a good job that will last.
Your thoughts?

I've never used anything but epoxy but SEM Rust Shield and ZeroRust are both brushable products. Never used the magical potion POR and never will. Aerosol epoxies are costly. If you can wait for the compressor purchase, shoot it with epoxy.

Dan, Look into renting a portable compressor for a few hours or possibly borrow
one from a friend. As has been stated aerosol epoxies are expensive. I checked on them a yr ago or so and the price was around $30/can. |

Dan,
FWIW I have a small compressor (Sears 33 gal) that I bought on sale years ago. I bought one of those $13 spray guns at Harbor Freight to spray the bottom of the car with. The compressor was able to keep up with the gun so I didn't have to spend a lot of money on that part of the project. And the compressor is able to keep up with my other spray gun (a Sharpe siphon gun) when I spray primer on the body panels. It'd be nice to have a bigger compressor, but for some projects you can get by with a smaller one with guns that can get by with lower CFM. I wouldn't try to spray the color with it though. Good luck, John

Just made a deal for a 5hp 60 gal Intersoll Rand. My buddy is going to help me run 220 to the garage. My wife is right....If I am spending this much time doing things right, its best not to skimp. I'll have to pick up a gun, but I figure the compressor can be used for more projects and will be worth it in the end.
