I thought I had a bad valve ticking so I pulled the valve covers run the valves one more time. Cranked the motor with the valve covers off no tick run it for 2-3 minutes (covered everything to catch most of the oil) Flipped the valve cover over for some reason and noticed the baffle has rub marks all over it. I took my channel locks and pulled it together. Question is if after I install and still get the tick and if needed can I remove the baffle and what does the baffle do anyway?

It keeps oil from being drawn into the intake manif via the PCV valve.
