I have a 67 with power steering that was added by someone in the past. My car has a long water pump. My understanding is that since I have the long water pump I need to use a hose for a 69. I bought a PS pressure hose for a 69 and installed it in my 67. The hose ends fit perfectly but the hose seems way to long. I would really like to see pictures of hose routing if anyone has any. I think it would really help in figuring out if the hose actually is too long or if I just don't have the routing correct.

the hose on my Nova ran from the pump down around the frame stand and up to the steering box, with a bracket that held both hoses together in there somewhere.

Thanks Steiner. I have mine routed forward from the gear box then turning toward the engine at the cross member in front of the headers. Then making a very large radius turn forward to the pump. But the hose is so long that it just about touches the oil pan and then goes back over to the pump. I will try to get over to the shop tomorrow and take a couple pictures. I forgot the camera yesterday when I was over there working on it.

Sorry man. Forgot about it. Your routing looks good. There is some extra hose but you just have to cinch it down best you can. All the hoses on Rock Auto show 42" or longer.

No problem Steiner. I called Gates and talked to an applications engineer there and he said they didn't have anything shorter with the same ends. Only had longer ones. He suggested I try a hydraulics place and see if they could shorten it and crimp the end back on. I may try that.
The hose is so long it touches the header and the oil pan. I could probably find some way to keep it of the header. I can't believe this is how they were from the factory. I can't imagine why they made it so long. It would fit so much better if it were 8-10" shorter. If anyone else has a picture of a stock one I would like to see it.

Well, stock was exhaust manifolds with a lot more clearance and a bracket mounted to the frame stand which clamped the hoses in place. I don't think my hose from Rick's is that long but I'll have to check. It obviously touches something since it has that foam sleeve around part of it.
I did find some pics from my old car that were of something else but you can see the piece of remaining bracket.

Thanks Steiner and Jeremiah. I don't think there is any way I could make mine look like that. It is way to long. I think I will try the hydraulics shop and see if they can shorten the hose for me.

If I find the ambition to find the front end of my car tomorrow I'll take some pics. I believe I've subbed a block of 2X4 for the broken Motor mount and the exhaust manifold is off. I used to repair Hydraulic hoses and Gates makes a compressoion fitting that you can cut those metal ends off, shorten (or replace) the rubber hose then put the original ends back on. I'm not aware that any I did ever failed at the compression fitting.

Thanks Jeff. I went to a hydraulics shop today and they said they cannot shorten the hose. Could only make a new one of the right length but is was way to costly. I will have to make what I have work.

Tell the hydraulic shop to cut the end off and crimp a compression fitting on the end of the hose ofter shortening it. You can also twist the hose around for routing before tightening. Do the end that has the longest straight section of tubing.Done this many times.

Hydraulic shops don't want the liability of a redoing an end. If its a different MFR's ends, theirs may blow off & they'd be liable.
