My fuel gauge on my 67 is pegged all the way past full.(3 o'clock). I dropped the tank and removed the sending unit. I did a resistance check and found that when the float was all the way down I have 3.3 ohms and with the float all the way up I have 102 ohms. The question is, since these readings are not 0 ohms and 90 ohms will this cause my gauge to be past full? I also checked the tan wire from the top of the sending unit to the plug in the trunk and got .2 ohms. any ideas? Thanks.
The following applies if sending unit is unplugged from car: If you checked the wire(s) from end to end, this is good. If you checked from a terminal to ground, this is bad, ie., wire pinched somewhere.
The problem turned out to be the sending unit after all. The resistance checks from ground to power were good. The problem was a short to ground where the the short metal band connects to the power on the bottom of the mounting piece. The rubber had fallen apart and was contacting the mounting piece. Put an insulator between the metal piece and the mounting piece to fix. Hope this might help someone.
