Default Disc Brake dust shields necessary??

Hey guys, I'm doing a 4 wheel disc conversion on my 67 and had a question about the dust shields. Do they need to be installed? Can I just leave them out? I finished up the front and installed them up there, but am now going to do the rear and while I was reading the instructions it said that if I "choose" to run it. So do I have to, it comes with another backing plate/shim to replace it so everything sits right.
Its just your plain jain conversion from The Right Stuff.
When I did a Baer conversion on my Chevelle, it didnt have any dust shields at all, and I really dont care about the "factory correct" look, so if I can lose them, I will.
Thanks!!

I have factory disc in front. I added Rightstuff disc in rear, I used their splash shields. They look good and do keep the water off the rotor. Looks factory also.

You don't need them. They help keep water & mud off the rotor but I doubt you are going to off-road your Camaro in the rain.

Mine didn't fit with the Wilwood conversion and I left them off. The only thing to watch out for is the grease when lubing the front end! I noticed this the other day.

i didn't have any dust/spash shields on the front of my Nova when i put the C4 Vette brakes on the front, and i never had any problems with the brakes not working in rain, mush, slush, or snow...

Thanks for all the responses. I'll leave the front ones on for now, since they're already installed, but I'll leave the rear ones out for now.
