Gary is right, with tennis it doesn't matter what court you play on you have the same shots again and again, with Golf you can play the same course every week and never ever get the exact same shot twice...And sometimes the course plays you...lol

I agree, golf is fun. No matter what day you go or what skill level you have for every 10 bad shots I have there is always one that makes up for it. IMO, a bad day of golf is 10x better than a good day at work. When I lived in the states I tried to play once a month, but ever since moving down here to Chile there aren't that many public courses. There are a couple here in Santiago and I have only played a few times. I need something to do since my camaro is in storage for 3 years LOL.

Haha, well now is the time I need to play you then. I guess I better dust off the clubs, I had been travelling too much and now that I'm off the road I have been working on the Nova all the time and haven't even picked up the clubs in months. I'm not very good when I practice and play often I can only imagine what my next round is going to look like.

That is so true, you will hit the best shot last, it's like a cruel joke...
It definitely seems like one of those sports you need continous practice at to stay decent, I really enjoy the fact it's challenging though. I had today off actually and really fought the urge to go hit a couple of buckets or the putt-chip course, but I have a backlog of yard work that had to get done. I am going tommorow though.

If I ever do get down to you and Mike's neck of the woods Royce I would love to go play with both of you (we can pick up a fourth on here I'm sure), I think that would be a blast! And you guys can feel free to laugh at me hacking through the course..
Your brother is giving you great advice. It is very hard not to get mad sometimes and when I was really trying to get better at it there were times I lost my cool and anytime that happens it shows up right away on the score card. One day I went golfing with a friend of mine that never practices and doesn't play that often and he was getting mad, throwing clubs, etc.. when I saw how silly that looked, I told myself I will never get mad like that on the golf course.

What makes the game so frustrating to me is, I am usually above average at most sports (scratch bowler, pretty good baseball/softball player, etc..) and that darn little white ball, that isn't even moving is so hard to hit exactly right. The harder you try the harder it is. I still love playing though.

My mistake is I never took a lesson, just went out to the driving range with friends that have played for years listened to them and the next thing you know I had my own clubs and was hacking it up.

Chi-Chi Royceriguez is what my friends call me on the course, lol.

I only get to play once or twice a year - I wish it didn't take to long to play a round of 18; let me rephrase that - I wish life would slow down enough to allow me to spend that amount of time playing golf more often.

On a nice day, when I am playing with my Dad or other close friends or family, it is an immensely enjoyable game. My Dad is 84 and still plays in double digits, even though he begrudgingly moved to the gold tees a few years ago. I played this past weekend in 94* heat and high humidity, however, and by the last 5 or 6 holes, I was just ready to get it over with.

It can be a maddening game, however. I love Robin Williams' take on the game of golf being invented by a drunken Scottsman: (warning, not work or family friendly)

Very true, sometimes you see parts of the course you didn't even know existed... like the woods..
It is nice how you can be familiar with a course but the ball is never in the same spot twice it seems, except hopefully at the end of the hole...

We are really fortunate around here where I live, there are litterally more courses than you could play in two months of weekends within an hour of my house.
I need to be careful though, or my car will end up in storage for the next three years..lol, I'm going to finish it though, but this will cut into my end date I'm sure. Oh well thats why they call it a hobby!

Chi-Chi Royceriguez... now that is funny!

I hear you, I always picked most sports up pretty quickly and could compete (plus I'm pretty competetive which can be a bad thing), and golf I think may be the most challenging to get a handle on so far. But you can't enjoy yourself all p.o'd and the rest of your game will get worse. My dad is super competetive (was a coach) and he used to get so mad when he was younger at golf he finally just quit. Now retired he has mellowed and enjoys the sport a ton, plays with his retired buddys all the time. I try to stay relaxed....try...

But WTH? like you said why is it soo darn tough to hit a stupid little white ball that doesn't even move?
I'm happy I have lessons to get me going, it's money well spent. I can totally feel the improvements after I grasp what I was taught. thats the key of course, I will go in feeling 'ok' about how I'm hitting the ball then he corrects something I'm doing wrong.... and it starts over. The good thing is after I grasp it I really notice an improvement.

I went to the Driving range on Friday and had not hit a bucket since the last lesson earlier in the week wher he corrected my overly left hand strong grip and got me to rotate through the swing more, and holy crap, I sliced and topped the hell out of the balls, I was really getting annoyed but then just relaxed, and pretty soon started hitting the ball better with less effort. It's crazy.

My name is Sean and I, too, am afflicted with the bug.
I belong to one club and play regularly in a league called "The Hackers" at a different club.
My best play was years ago......now I just enjoy the walk/ride out in nature.
My new house overlooks a golf course.
I collect wayward 2nd shots on a par 5 in my yard.I'll never buy another ball in this lifetime.
I have a golf cart for hauling around the yard.
Yes, My name is Sean and I play at it, knowing I will never be any better.

Any sport you can do while drinking is fine.
Can't stand getting older. Still feel and look in shape but I can pull a muscle just jumping to conclusions now.

Nice...
My Dad will give me balls regularly that he and is buddy dig out of the woods when no one is playing behind them, retirement sounds pretty rough...

Exactly, the first few times this year I played I was sore! Not just ouch I felt that sore but like after a 3 hour practice in high school, only with one I was a kid doing it on a couple hours of sleep, now I'm just getting old!
I think thats another reason I like it though, connects me back to athletics that I loved so much when I had no responsibilies to concern myself with.
