Default Treatment prior to soundproofing

Guys:

I have been reading with interest the threads on soundproofing. Great informative threads. Regardless of which product I choose what have y'all done to prep the floors, roof, doors, trunk, etc? My new semi project car is from Phoenix, AZ and has positively great floors etc and I am wondering what to do. Should I just clean the floors real well with a degreaser and then cover with soundproofing or should I do something like paint with rustoleum or coat with POR 15 first? I am not worried about it not being "stock" or "original" I just want to not worry ever again about rust and to have a great quiet, solid car.

Thanks

I started with new floors and my shop coated mine with Zinc primer and 3M Seam Sealer:

And then coated with a heavy layer 3M Body Schutz:

...The Body Schutz is very thick and textured.

I will be adding Dynamat next.

Sound deadening mats (like dyonmat, secondskin, fatmat, etc) are not replacements for paint. For the best protection and longevity you want to make sure you have a good layer of primer or something like por15 to protect the metal.

As far as prep before laying down the sound deadening just make sure you get any loose dirt or grease off but it doesn't have to be a perfectly clean surface. Most mats stick real well.

EDIT: I speel gud.

Before I sprayed Lizard Skin, I sanded off all the surface rust. Brushed the floor with some primer sealer/rust preventive stuff that I can't remember the name. And everywhere else I used a wire wheel to strip the rust off the roof area, then sprayed Rustoleum Rust Tough Primer.

Before:

After:

Lizard Skin:
