What kind of shape is the rear defooger grill I have seen one that is square mine is slanted on one side and has the correct date code for my car on the motor. I was thinking maybe some one changed the grill. also is the switch the same for 67 and 68 Thank You Joe

Joe, This might get some dissagreement, but ALL the original Camaro,s i have seen in the last 35 years have the square type grill. This is a popular option in Canada because of the snow. I had a 67, 3- 68,s and 2-69,s with the square grill.
The rounded off corner grille was in the big impalas/pontiacs etc. I suppose it is possible that the rounded off grille MIGHT have been used, but i personaly have never seen 1 in a original car. The switch is the same 67/68- GM # 3861697. Hope this Helps.

Thank You for anwsering my question I have seen both styles in 68 camaro's but that does not mean it is correct. So I Though I would put it out their and see what everone said. I have the slanted corner style in my comaro and it is suppose to be original. Joe

I'm not sure I follow either discription of the grill style? I have both 67 and 68's with rear defrost and the grills are both the same rectangle style with rounded corners? The motors are different between the 67, enclosed case, and the 68 has a non cased motor. The switch on the 67 is the button style and the 68 has the round knob. I might be abe to find photos later this week.

"The switch on the 67 is the button style and the 68 has the round knob" Not sure what you mean by this, the GM parts book dated Sept/75 shows the switch as #3861697 for both 67 and 68 and also the knob as #3899716 also for 67 and 68. The knob is round for both years and faces down under the dash. These numbers are shown in the GM parts book as being for coupe only. They are the original numbers, there where no superceded numbers shown. The differnce in the grilles are - The Camaros used a metal rectangular grille with 4 small rounded corners ( the size of say a old silver dollar ) and the Impala grille has 1 really big corner extremly rounded off , and then the other 3 where much smaller. Also a lot of defoggers sold on ebay are WRONG, the camaro had a metal grille ( not plastic) and the lower blower frame assembly was also steel, not plastic. Hope this Helps.

Where exactly is the switch located on the dash? I have a 67 original defroster but switch & wire gone.

If memory serves me correctly it is to the left of the steering column, on the under side of the dash. The switch knob faces down towards the carpet. There should be a square hole with 2 countersunk screw holes, 1 on either side .
Hope this helps.

Your correct on the switch mount. Sit in the car and where your left knee is, right there. It looks the same as the headlight switch but it sticks down towards the floor. Good Luck!

Steve it is in the same location that a convertible top switch would be located. There is a cut out in the instrument carrier left of the steering wheel and the metal dash support has a stamped hole with mounting holes for the switch. Knob is just like the headlight knob.
If I remember right from the 68RS I had before my current 68SS it was a purple heavy gage wire and the package tray mounted cover had a circular portion in the cover that could be rotated? That's going back 10 years and a few Camaros so I could be wrong on the cover. Dave |
