Ill be doing the interior in a little while and wanted to know if i could order the Deluxe interior package instead of the standard. Will it be a direct bolt in so to say? Just wondering if there would be any snags converting.....

not sure, I have a 67 R/S with deluxe interior (although at the moment it does not look so deluxe) but it is different, be prepared to spend some serious $$$, there are a ton of stupid things like sail panel lighting, (there is no main dome light) and deluxe usually had a center console with the rear ashtray light too. the back panels had ashtrays in them too (do they all?) and the rear area where the package tray is has different trim, there is also different trim like window roll down things, door handles are different, (the arm rests are incorporated into deluxe interior sets) and deluxe interior door panels have carpet onthe bottom of them, seatbelts are different. and the headliner is different too, (hence no cut out for the dome light. ) but I think most headliners require you to "cut it yo dang self" anyway.. If theres somthing I am missing or messed up on , I am sure another team member will jump in ...

Chris has touched on some very good points! I know in a '69 the window regulators are different. You would never get the window cranks on with dlx door panels and std regulators...

It can be done but there is a lot of research to do first!

I looked into doing the very same thing, and read once where the bottom seat cushions also are different in the deluxe due to the door panels extending further into the interior than the standard panels. I believe it was Classics book or NPD's that has this information.

Be prepared to spend about a thousand bucks just on material from "Ricks First Gen", They have full kits. I would imagine there is solid hardware you would need to buy as well. I know Im eyeing the project myself.

One more thing I can think of is the bracket on door panel. Mine is 67, but there is a different bracket to bolt deluxe panel by inside door handle. Not sure if thats even available. The seat foam IS different for deluxe seats. The pad is a little bit different in shape, thicker. So deluxe skins on standard seat foam would never tighten up so to speak. My SS 396 car had standard, it needs to be redone completely, I'm leaving it that way. Is weather stripping different between standard & deluxe on 68's??

You might be better off just to change the covers on your seats to something like the houndstooth rather than just plain vinyl. It adds to the interior just enough to change the looks.

The back seat is also smaller because the deluxe has rear arm rests. A convertible has the same back seat in the standard and deluxe but if you have a coupe, you will have to change the seat and add arm rests.

Wow john, I didn't know the back seat widths were different between standard & deluxe. But It does make sense because panels are wider on deluxe. And to think I have both types, and it took a fellow from grand rapids to make me see it. I learn something new everyday about these cars.

My 67 has factory deluxe, but the guy before me installed standard door panels. So, I'm sure you can go the other way too. If you want it to look factory, its probably not worth the cost. There is also the stainless seat belt buckels, and the headliner trim above the windows is chrome.

Someone made a comment on window regulators. That is absolutely correct. I learned the hard way...hehehe. I had no interior for my 68 convertible so figured I would go with all deluxe. Looks real good, but I haven't swapped regulators and it is a real nightmare trying to get windows up and down. Not really a problem though. Top stays down year round. If it aint nice outside,,,,the car stays in the garage.

Window regulaters also different? Is that true with 67's too. In that clunker 68 I just bought, it had no interior so to speak but there were deluxe door panels laying on the floor with the window regulaters. What is different?, and wouldn't the doors themselves have to be different if the hole is located in different place? We may have to post new topic on this to get some feedback, this is driving me crazy now.

Of course you can change it. Just go and ask your mom, I mean your wallet first(just a little humor). All new seat buns, front and rear. Deluxe door panels, front and rear and deluxe front and rear window regulators. The shafts are longer than a standard due to the different panels. But there nice when its all done.
