I just purchased a new Edelbrock Air Gap alum. manafold. It is a thing of beauty and I would like to keep it looking that way. Have any of you guys ever applied a clear finish to an alum. manafold? It seems like this would be a good way to protecting against dirt, gas & oil. As always, thanks for your help!

I have never personally cleared a manifold, but have seen alum. manifolds that guys have painted and it doesnt work. You could either have it polished or look into powder coating.

I use POR-15'S POR-20 Brilliant Aluminum Coating HEAT RESISTANT PAINT on both the intake and exhaust manifolds, works great, and easy to apply with a foam brush. may need a touch up now and then after several months.

I never thought of having it powdercoated but that might not be a bad idea. If that does not work out the POR-20 does not sound bad either. Thanks for the ideas guys!

I did mine in clear poly-urehtane and clean it with a wheel cleaner that is safe for clear coated wheels. Still looks good after 7 years.

I have seen many intakes cleared and they look great. I am told by the owners the dirt and grim just wipes off. I may try it the next time I have my intake off. Erik

Idoxlr8, Did you just use some type of heat paint or just regular poly-urthane paint?

I had one of mine Jet Hot coated - top and bottom - worked great and looked great. Plus the thermal barrier on the bottom kept it cool.

I used regular Poly-urethane that I bought at a hardware store in So-Cal. It will darken the color a little bit but it will protect it for along time.

Clear coat urethane holds up great too. Same paint I use on the exterior.

I painted mine clear. I used clear engine paint/Coating. The only thing I didnt like Is that it yellowed ever so slightly, but it still looks better than oxidation. It's very easy to clean. Just be carefull of fuel drips if you do jet changed and so forth.

i had mine powder coated. looks great and clean great. I believe that edelbrock manifolds come clearcoated from the factory. In fact i'm almost positive. I could be wrong though. I sandblasted mine and once they're sandblasted they become like a sponge for dirt and grime. That's why i powdercoated it.

I havent tried it, but POR has a product called PELUCID that is supposed to be as tough as POR-15 and it is Clear. This may be an alternative...?? Aluminum will oxidize if not protected/cleaned frequently as we know, but the polished types seem to be more resilient. my2centz

I did one of mine in clear coat and it turned yellow when I dripped gas on it. I like 'em plain.
