Question Some problems with new 91 Z28

I just purchased my 91 Z28 and am having a few problems that I can't find answers to. First off is my speedo., It only works when I want it wants to, usually after the car is hot or if I drive at low speeds for 20 to 30 secs. I have a chilton manual which tells me where the cable is, but it's not there. I have an automatic tranny and as far as I can see there is no cable. Every where I look online tells me that an auto doesn't have a speed sensor. am I losing my mind or what? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Second is what I believe is a sensor. My temp gauge doesn't register when the car warms up, and it still idles high even after it warms up.

It's probably a TPI car? Bunch of sensors on it for fan relays, temp sensors, etc. The temp sensor is seperate from the fan relay sensor. Might need to replace one or maybe all and get it over with - they aren't that exspensive. I think the temp guage sensor is on the driver side of the block and the fan on the pass side.

The speedo cable should be a snap on cable on the back of the speedo. You probably need to take apart the dash cluster to un hook it. It was a real pain with it assembled, but if the dash is apart, it's easy. The guages are easy to remove - maybe a dozen screws.

Check out thirdgen.org. Lots of owners of 3rd gens and a very active board.

Congrats on the 91Z. post some pics up .. I love them .. .I have 2 .. a 91Z t-top and a 91 Z convert. There is no Cable behind the Speedo ...... just two wire harnesses that conect to the backside. Get use to the guages not working properly .. cause I have problems with mine as well , but im use to it already. sometimes they freak out and sometimes they work Flawlessly.

I know thats no answer for you but thats my experience.

Rob.

sometimes the amg pickup in the trans gets full of metal particulate, and wont read...also the temp sensor for the engine is probably the cause of the high idle and lack of guage...20 dollar fix...
