Default Cam manufacturers

Looking to replace my solid -140 SBC cam and I understand that Crane offers it in the blueprinted musclecar series. GM Performance Parts also offers it, but they simply use the Crane grind. I'm not real hot on Crane after watching on snap clean in half in my friends Buick GS Stage 1 motor.

I talked to a shop today that offers the -140 grind and they say that Clevite is grinding them. Has anyone else ever heard of this? Is Clevite really grinding cams or are they having someone else do it for them? Don't want to end up with any overseas sub-standard stuff. Maybe the Crane is the way to go?

I know you can still find an NOS GM one, but due to it's association with the cross ram package as an over the counter replacement the prices guys are asking are ridiculous for these. Just looking for a quality alternative.

Default Re: Cam manufacturers

I got mine thru www.sdpc2000.com . IIRC, it was ground by clevite. I won't be home for another almost 2 weeks, but I'll check if you'd like.

Seems like I gave $125 for the cam and lifter set, but that was 2-3 years ago. I've been dying to try it in a 11.3-1 388 with vortec heads.

Default Clevite Warning!!!

Hold off at this time with any Clevite engine parts other than baerings. They have been bought up by Mahle and are not to organized at this time. Might be wise to wait till the whole deal all settles down.

The entire Dana engine parts line is now owned by Mahle of Germany!
