Hi guys, I have a new 383 stroker dynoed at 435HP and 465ft-lbs torque (cam/intake operating range is 2,500 to 5,500 rpm) I am having my thm350 built to handle the HP and torque. The race shop told me I need a stall converter at about 2300 to 2500 rpm. Do any of you have a recommendation on a good torque converter and if the stall rpm is ok for this range. The car is mainly used on the street and not the strip. Thanks!

My engine is a 383 also with the same specs, my trans is a beefed up th400 and my trans guy used a b&m holeshot 2500 stall. The car is a few weeks from complete so i can't rate the performance yet. Mike

My 69 Camaro (465hp Beck 383) also has a B&M Holeshot 2500 stall, perfect for my 3.73 rear with TH350, I wouldn't change a thing! Great for racing or cruising.
That said though, you might check out a Hughes Performance 2500 stall from Summit for $205 or Jegs for $129, the B&M equivalent 2400 is $265, so you save $60-$136. Summit brand only goes up to 2000 stall ($109) HUP-GM25 Hughes Performance Street Master Torque Converters Torque Converter, Street Rod, Chevy, TH350, Each $205.95 Jegs on the other hand has 2300-2700 stall for $129!! 555-60400 12'', 2300 |

Joe - I recently bought a 383 with 455hp, 440tq, engine builder recommended a place called Dynamic Converters (Shawn) they built me a 3500 stall converter specifically for my car. They ask a lot of questions about the cam, peak torque/hp and at what rpm, gear ratio, weight of car, trans etc. IMO this is the way to go rather than an off the shelf unit. Performance improvement has been amazing. Not cheap though, approx. $600. Kinda cought me off guard with the price but I went for it anyway. - Rob

another thing to concider before you run off and get the wrong converter is:
your rear end gear ratio your vehicle weight most trustworthy converter shops will ask you this question. |

Agree with dawg,Call up Hughes and give them ALL your info, see what they recommend. Call some of the others mentioned in the posts also. I did that and they all told me to go with a 3000 stall. Got the gm30 Hughes works great! Really woke up the combo...everyone has something a little different so check it out and don't waste $$
