I have my engine all wired up but when I went to try and start it the engine would turn over and when I turned the key off it kept turning over. So I had to pull off a battery cable to get it to stop. (I have the purple wire closest to the block and the + battery cable connected but nothing else cuz i have a distributer w/o a coil) is that correct? Anyways i took the starter off the block hooked it up the same way i described and grounded it turned the key and it turned off when it was supposed to. Anybody know whats goin on?
Thanks alot |

Sometime you need to shim the starter. If the clearance is too tight the selenoid can't retract when you let off the key. As long as it's engaged it'll draw current just like you've got the key turned.

Does that still need to be connected even though my distributer does not have a coil?

What kind of distributor do you have that doesn't need a coil?
