Hey,
I am 95% through my Vintage Air A/C install (new Gen IV unit), and i have a question about how best to route my belts. I have a passenger side alternator and driver side p/s pump and a/c compressor. My crank pulley has 2 grooves as does the a/c compressor pulley. I was thinking of routing one belt between the crank , water pump and alternator and the other belt from teh crank to the p/s pump to the a/c compressor. Looks like nothing will hit the belts in this cofiguration. Is this an okay way to route the belts? Is there a preferred way?

I was about to post a similar question. My 69 has a marine engine and I think it may have the pulley setup off it as well. Scalise- can you send me a few pics of how you routed everything? My email- grsdup1@aol.com. What year/motor are you working with? Scott

When I installed this sysytem on my 68 big block with the altenator on the passenger side. There was no way to have 2 belts to the A/C compressor. I called vintage air to ask what to do an they said you only need one belt on the compressor. Have installed and been useing the system for month or so and it works great with only one belt.

So how do you have your belts routed then? Are you using Power Steering? I assume you are using only 2 belts total?

scalise, the problem I see with using the same belt for A/C and PS is that the belt will be overloaded and the accessories will lose belt contact area and thusly cause them to slip when under a high load. You can visualize the effect. Picture in your minds eye how much belt will be in contact with the PS pulley if it's just driving the pulley. Then see how much is in contact with the PS pulley if it has to go to the A/C clutch too.
I don't think you'll be happy with the resultant squealing. I'd try to score a 3 grove drive pulley.
