Default Exhaust w/ X-pipe Question

I'm at the point in my project where it's time to figure out my exhaust situation. I run a 408 sbc with Hedman 1-3/4" coated headers. I just purchased a set of 3" Borla XR-1's (12" body w/ center inlet/outlet). I plan to run a 3" exhaust with an X-pipe and turndowns at the mufflers. I eventually plan on a full welded system, but the engine/header combo is only temporary, until a Dart smallblock is finished, so I'd like to plan for a re-usable system.

Does anyone have a similar combination? If so, did you buy a kit, or have the exhaust fabbed? I'm considering a pre-bent pipe kit, but there are a ton and I'm a little confused... It would be nice to bolt one on until I change over. Got any recommendations?

Also, are there any kits available that dump the exhaust to the side in front of the rear tires?

Thanks.
Jim

Default Re: Exhaust w/ X-pipe Question

Jim, I have a similar combo & this is what I did. I run 1-7/8" x 3-1/2" super comps & i called DR Gas for the x-pipe system & spintech mufflers. I ended up per their recomendation, with a 3-1/2" before the x to 3" after the x system (all in pieces) & was able to fully install it in an afternoon. I dumped mine right after the axle but you could easily dump out the side in front of the tires just as easily. I tacked the whole system together in the car then pulled it down & fully welded it. It looks & sounds awesome! You could clamp the whole thing together if you want but if you are running the same headers with the next motor, I guess you could weld it all together now? I would not hesitate to buy again from DR Gas. Bill.
