I just paid good money for a real X66.... now I know how everyone feels when they are discussing trim tags. It is disappointing that someone is going to sink 25k into a camaro, buy a $750 tag, and try to make 50k after they slap on the tag.

I am not promoting a certian business which I am sure you guys are aware of, however how is a loose tag any real diff. than a repro tag?

I mean why would someone pay 750.00 for the tag when there is service X which does them for less. I mean who knows that the tag for sale is not really a aged version of the repro's you can buy online?

I guess its all the dishonesty going around everywhere that just makes me sick, and untrusting of about everything!

Seems to me that P.T. Barnum anticipated this activity long before Camaros were born ...
To 'mis-quote' - "there's a new collector Camaro born every minute" ...

I am really surprised that ebay does not cancel auctions like this. Several yrs back people were trying to sell vin #s and titles but thankfully ebay would shut them down. My worry is that goons will see there is a market for trim tags and none of our projects will be safe out in the back lot anymore.

Hey not all Goons are in the trim tag black market. My team of Goons hates these scumbags and has the Hitmen occasionally pay them a visit.

Thats what I could not articulate yesterday for some reason. I was more curious why people were so upset about the cowl tag being for sale. It's not like the vin tag #'s will match the cowl tag #'s, which would give off a major alarm to anyone buying the car.

I would be more afraid of those places that make trim tags, instead of ones out stealing/selling old ones.

Well technically it is not illegal to sell a trim tag. It is however illegal to sell a VIN plate, hence why e-bay pulls those. A couple of years ago a guy from Indiana had an e-bay auction for a TT and VIN off a '67 SS Impala. The State Police paid him a visit and arrested him.

There is no number on the trim tag that will "match" the vin. It is only a range of dates that will be acceptable. For instance, a tag from an 07a V8 car put on another 07a V8 car, if done well enough, cannot be determined to have been swapped just by the numbers. Depending on the BDY number, maybe even an 07b car or something just a bit earlier. That is why guys want to track these. When this tag shows up on a "complete numbers matching car" next year, this thread will show the tag was removed from the car and sold on ebay. Busted.

You have heard the saying: "Everyone talks about the weather, but no one is doing anything about it." Well, I think it is time to DO SOMETHING about the fake trim tags and the loose trim tags. I have posted my opinions on this topic many times, but the most comprehensive is here (and yes it is long):

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/show...0/fpart/1/vc/1

As I said, it is time to do something about it. It can be done. I promise it can. I have just set up a new email account at:

nofaketags@hotmail.com

If you are interested in doing something about it in your state (I am already taking care of it in Oklahoma) please email me at that address. Do not send me a PM or email me at the address linked to my membership here. Your email may get lost that way. Only email if you are willing to do some work to stop all of the fake and loose trim tag sales. If you don't agree with me, express it here on the forum. Please don't waste my time on this email account. This account is ONLY for those who want assistance stopping the fraud in their respective state. I can help you, but you will have to do some serious leg work.

I also ask that you communicate with me about other subjects either via PM or my other hotmail account. This one is reserved for fighting trim tag fraud.

Would like to have a few guys from each state (other than Oklahoma) that are WILLING TO WORK TOGETHER to get this done.

OK, I really need to get back to work. I am so short on time today, and really don't have the time to spend on this today, but will check this account this evening.
