Hi.
Getting ready to buy a 67 with excellent straight body with no rust, but in need of a new paint job. New to this restore stuff but looking forward to it. Can anyone tell me what I can expect to have to pay for a good paint job. I think I'll keep it Granada Gold. Nothing spectacular, just a paint job that will last more than an Earl Schreib special... Thanks for any info you can provide. Jim.. |

I am paying about $3500 for mine. Sikkens 2003 Torch red with a black metallic bumblebee stripe (unless I change my mind and paint it black again LOL). 4 coats of clear with color-build primer.
A local body shop quoted me $1800 for a 'good' paint job (not show quality) if the car did not require any body work.

OK..Thanks.
When you say show quality, are you saying a paint job that is even nicer than the car would look brand new? I'm really just looking for something that will make the car look as it did when it was bought new, and hopefully last as long as that factory paint job would. I was thinking around 2k so I guess that is in line. Jim |

If your looking for JUST a quality paint job, you can usually start at the 3k area.
And if you do end up buying this car and want to leave it the correct gold, let me know and I'll share my formula with you. Its a dead ringer to what its supposed to look like. All the re-paints that I have seen are usually to dark or to red.

Jim, the shop I work at a complete paint starts at 1500 and goes up from there. that is on a car that needs no BODY WORK what so ever, all we have to is sand and paint. Now if your car needs paint from metal up you are going to spend in the neighborhood of 1000 bucks just for paint!!
I would look at spending around the 2500-3500 dollar range for a nice paint job that needs no metal work...Eric

Jim let me know when you get the car! I manage a body shop in Hampton & I`m sure I could get that car looking good for a reasonable price... What kind of shape is the paint in now? If you have any cracking, peeling, or blistering it will need to be stripped... Then you may run into having to rework any old body filler that will no doubt be lurking under that old paint...

Don't forget about "Mr. Rust"... Not trying to scare, just being realistic Good Luck, any first gen deserves a decent paint job... Mike
